It is with regret that we arrive at the end of an other year. Our work for the most part has been a pleasure that only those connected with it were able to enjoy. Sometimes our work was hard, but through the love for our little publication we stuck and did the best that we could. The issue marks the close of an other year, but not the end of the Maroon and Gold. Next year and other years are to follow, and in that time we hope to see.the Ma roon and Gold keep pace with the college and develop into one of the best, if not the best college papers in the state. The present staff will have charge of the paper next year and we hope to give our readers news that will keep them in touch with the happenings here and also elsewhere. The staff the past year has endeavored to pub lish those things that would be of interest to the students and also to the outsiders who read our paper. We have tried to improve iipon the issues, w’hether we have made any progress or not is hard to say. The support of the stu dents and the faculty has been pleasing: and we deeply appre ciate all that they have contrib uted. If this support continues, and grows as it should grow, Maroon and Gold should be a wonderful success. / VACATION IS HERE. Just two more weeks and all will be over for the year 1924-25. Vacation time will be here. The Maroon and Gold wishes each of its readers a most happy vacation. We wish that the Maroon and Gold could still go to you as usual, but the paper will also take a va cation. However the Maroon and Gold will be probably the first to greet your return next fall and we hope that it will be better than ever. Happy vacation to every one. “SOM STU” . Som Stude > The Mnrooii and Gold made iiiucdi of the fact recently that the social seasoTi for the ye.ir was oonijdetcd. Afford ing to reports that camo from tlie vic inity of the power house Saturday night there wns anotlier genera] wind ing up of the gay social season, that every spring jnakos its appearance on our campus. Tlie only thing that was lacking at tlie Phinihers Ball was girls. Everything else that goes to make up a complete good time was very much in evidence. One of the features of the evening was a prize that was to be given to the best clog dancer. When this was an nounced many faces radiated joy and seemed to say that the owner of tliose faces anticipated the winning of the prize. But when tlie Ossipee Cuban be gan gyrating around the floor all hopes of successful competition were gone. In fact the contest lasted no longer than he did. Jim Utley made a few passe? at competition but be it said for him that he recognized his master in the gentle art of stirring up dust on the floor. It was rumored that Vickers was fully capable of upholding the reputa tion of his state along this line, but he didn’t attempt it. —S— It seems as if this issue should be merely a shout of joy on the part of the staff. A year’s work is completed. Paul said that he had run a good race and finished the course. The staff has run a good race but has not finished the course. —0— It is rumored that our tennis team played the team from the Greensboro Country Club Saturday afternoon, but what we read in the paper is all we h^'e heard about it. Well, we don’t sui)pose that Napoleon had much to say about the little scrap he had at Water loo. —M— We have heard that ‘‘Pussyfoot'’ was beginning to fear that his record as a water tosser was about to be eclip sed, so to prevent this serious disaster he started a petition among the boys to stop throwing the bagged liquid. A splendid idea Pussyfoot, but your mo tive is too thinly veiled. ~S— Barnyard Golf seems to be growing in popularity. But that is easily ex plained. The boys are getting warmed up to the barnyarc\ before the summer’s session begins. We believe that fath ers would appreciate it if the college would give a "week’s course in the art of trailing behind a plow, sometime be fore school is out. ~T— News Item—The Student Senate con vened Monday P. if. ■—U— The Same—The Student Senate coffer •was enriched Monday P. M. ATHLETICS AT ELON FOR THE PAST YEAR WERE CONDUCTED WITH SUCCESS WITH NEW MEN (Continued from Page One) In basketball we will lose only one letter man aud when we stop and con sider the fact that never has there been a basketball team in the State that de veloped so rapidly as ours of last sea son-and, add to this the fact that there will be among the new men some bas ketball material of quality we can, with real pleasure and anticipation look to the coming basketball season. The baseball season is just over and^ the results of the season and the several games arc very fresh in our minds. We did not win- many ga^nes it is true. We played very bad baseball at times. Consider the greenness of the men and it is not surprisiiig. It would have been much more surprising had the season re sulted differently. But the best fea ture of the entire season is the fact that the entire team will return or should return for next year and .add to this fact that we know that there will be some baseball material among the new men coming to Elon in the fall. We can look forward with much pleas ure to our Athletics next year. Coach Corbdy makes no hones about predict ing that next year will be one well worth looking forward to. Tt is a known fact that he wants to give some of the teams that defeated ours in the past year some of the same sort of medi cine that we were forced to- take this year. Let us at this time decide that we are coming back in the fall with a re newed energy and determination to make not only our Athletics, but oiir College and everything connected with it the best ever and add to it until it shall be famed throughout the entire South^as one of the outstanding insti tutions. MRS. BLANCHE SUMMERS COBB (Continued from Page One) in the hour of her life’s finest and best achievements, when faith in Christ had come to its highest, this devoted wife and mother was called to her eter nal reward. At the conclusion of the service the remains were tenderly laid to rest in the church burying ground near by and there await the resurrec tion summons from on high. This space is ungrudgingly dedicated to the following: 1. Students who, during the year, have had something to hand in and have failed to do- so. 2. Organizations who have failed to hand in write ups in good shape and on time. 3. Faculty members who have failed to co-operate in the above manner. 4. Friends who have failed to pat ronize our advei-tisers. 5. Students who never read the edi torials. 6. Kickers who do not know how to boost. 7. Kickers who know how to boost. 8. Kickers in general. 9. Alumni who have failed to- pay the small fee which was requested of them. 10. And to a greater and better pa per, school and spirit next year, to be brought about by more co-operation from students, faculty, alumni, and friends. THE STAFF.
