They are as follows i A. W. Laxton, president. C. J. Thomas, vice president. G. E! Ring, secretary. O. W. Deaton, first censor. M. Carrow, second censor. B. D. Jones, first critic. A. Eo'driquez, second critic. P. Eakestraw, chaplain. The program Tuesday night was en couraging to those interested in society work. Darden Eure gave a reading that won for him the honor of first place on the entire program. “Big Brother” T. D. Eure gave some good current events. His description of the MoTavian services was especially vivid and interesting. The debate, “Resolved, That prohibition is a failure,’’ was affirmed in a convincing way by Romie Davis and G. E. Ring; but the argument of the negative speakers, Alberto Rodriquez and George Robertson, was still more convincing, as evidenced by the decision of the judges in favor of the negative. I SOCIAL j j The Nevele Club met with Miss Sav age at West Dormitory on the evening 'of April 3rd. The program consisted of facts about the life of Dorothy Scar borough by Mrs. Alexander, a discus sion of recent books from the press by Mrs. Cannon and Campus Capers, in the form of limericks bringing in each member of the club, by Miss Stearns. There was a fine attendance, and after the program Mrs. Tower provided Easter and April Fool stunts which were much enjoyed. Miss Eaine received a prize for making the handsomest Easter bonnet. Thompson gave a splendid discussion cm the various types of aeroplanes. He spoke of the dif ferent uses made of tliem and their value in the commercial world. J. E. Watts then gave a very effective and practical discussion of Lindberg in aviation. The question for debate for the eve ning was: Resolved, That aviation promotes world peace. Albert Weston and Ray Moses were the two contend ing parties. Each produced much argu ment which resulted in a> very heated affair. Both gave numerous instances in which the aeroplane has played im portant roles in peace and war, and used these facts to carry their respec tive sides. The negative, however, won. J E. Watts gained, the distinction of being the best orator of the evening. Von Alta was greeted with a clean double by Walker who was hitting for Fowler. The outstanding features of the game for Penn State was the all-round play ing of Lung'ren who played first base. For Elon, H. Briggs starred in the field, handling twelve chances without a mis- cue. '‘Red’^ Smith was the leading player with the willow, getting a triple, double and two singles out of five times at bat. WAKE FOREST GAME Elon lost to the Wake Forest Deacons by the score of 1 to 0. The game was fast, being played in one hour and fifty minutes. Both teams played a perfect game in the field, neither making an error. The pitching of Fowler for Elon was the outstanding feature of the game, he allowing the Deacons but one hit during the contest. Landing, the lanky southpaw for the Wake Forest club, allowed Elon five scattered hits. Th‘e Deacons scored their lone tally in the fourth inning when Fowler walked the first man up in this frame, a sacri fice and the one Wake Fprest hit scor ing the only and winning run. The fielding honors were about evenly divided with the entire team giving both pitchers the best of support. Daw- tin, second sacker for Wake Forest, made several beautiful stops, that look ed go'od for base hits, while Clark and H. Briggs were the . outstanding per formers for Elon. wliieh is found in a growing number of centers in the Old No'rth State, there will appear on the program Marie Montana, soprano soloist of the Metro politan Company of New York City. The public does not generally know tliat Marie Montana is Ruth Kellogg Waite, who, like many artists, adopted her native state as her professional name when she made her operatic de but in Italy as “Musetta’’ in “La Boheme.” Slie isi one of the most cele brated singers in American music to day. The New York critics are unani mous in acclaiming her as an outstand ing artist. She has been engaged by the Ann Arbor Festival for the solo work in their coming Spring Festival. She is to give her program before the State Convention in Sanford on the evening of April 18th. Another artist of charming ability and a native of North Carolina who has made good in music circles in New York City, is Ruth Rankin. Miss Rankin is a pianist of outstanding ability. She was reared, in Boone, N. C., but for the past several years has been studying and giving concerts in New York and other parts of the coun try. She won the Juilliard Foundation Scholarship for three successive years. Her return to her native state for a concert at the State Federation Con vention is an outstanding event. Her concert is to be given on the evening of the 19th of April. She will be assist ed in her recital by the Alamance County Choral Chib, directed by Prof. C. J. Velie of Elon College. Mrs, Vera Bull Hull of the National Music League, New York City, is to appear on the program on the morning of the 19th. She will deliver an ad dress on ho*w the National Music League discovers, encourages, develops, and in other ways assists, young artists in various parts of our country.
