MAROON AND GOLD April 26, 1928. fflarnnu mh Oinlb PUBLISHED BY THE STUDENTS OF ELON COLLEGE Entered at the Post-Ofllce at Elon College, N. O., as Second-Class Matter. TWO DOLLARS PEE COLLEGE YEAB ADVERTISING RATES UPON REQUEST All articles for publication must be in the bands of the Managing Editor by 12:00 M. Monday. Articles received from an unknown source will not be published. CLASS OF '18 R are gfoin^ to be all puffed u]> and swelled with pride when we can have the pleasure of offering our' “paw” to the class, of tive honor both to the college and student body to have them honor both to the college and student body to have them here. There have been thirty-nine units graduated from Elon. And one of those units is coming back to recall fond memories and cement friendships into a closer union. 1 hink for a minute. Wouldn t it be wonderful to have all thirty-nine of these units welded together? What wonders they could accomplish for their' Alma Mater ! \^"ith a chain of thirty-nine links, all of the same strength, joined together, there is nothing that they couldn’ti accomplish. Our old Alumni Building is but a shell, a great hulk that is a blot on our beau tiful cdmpus, an eye-sore compared with the rest of our sumptuous new buildings. Our power house is very unattractive and inadequate. Its situation gives a very unattractive view from the highway. It should be moved. Alumni, we invite you back to the campus to en joy our hospitality and look over the situation. SOCIAL UNREST IVERY young college student has or should have, a little ego in his make-up. There is too, radicalism, which crops out. This radicalism is more openly demonstrated in some students than others. There have been few radical changes in the old hide-bound rules and conventions of socie^:y. It gradually adjusts itself as time swiftly passes onward. Every college in the( state has its “Blue” or “Red” book of rules for student government. With the passage of time, some of these rules are changed in accordance with the social outlook. One college in North Carolina has completely renovated its “Red” book; age old barriers have been removed, and judging from the latest report from that school, the new system is unquestionable successful. Elon College is on the' brink of tradition smashing. We have one of the niftiest and most modern and up-to-date little schools in the South. We have a group of beautiful new buildings, that any student would be justly proud to show off. It is not our purpose to follow in the foot-steps of other schools and do and act as they* do: neither is it our aim to quote after them. The chief aim is to have a happy, satisfied, and contented student bodv. It is our desire to promote a spirit here that will cause our students, after having gone out in life, to look back with fond mem ories and just pride upon their Alma Mater—and return to its stately halls with a loving enthusiasm to foster its betterment. ,A meeting of the student representatives and deans will be held shortly at which the rules will be taken up and discussed. Let those of us who are interested and who think some changes are needed, be thinking seriously about this and be ready to present our ideas and arguments at the proper time and place. — White Mountain Refrigerators Half a century of imauestioned business inte^ty Is tee of service and quality when you buy a> WHITE MOUNTAIN REFRIGERATOR. Rhodes, Class of ’21, goes the honor of having |V-i/| composed the present and only stanza of our College Song. This is a never-to-be-forgotten piece of work which will al ways be kept immortal in the hearts and memories of Elon College students. The inspiring words and stirring tune of this sonj are indeed well worthy of the pride of any school. Mr. Rhodes is now teaching in Burlington High School, and ho is one of our most loyal alumni. We went to see him the other day and suggested that a stanza be added to the song. Of course any one will readily agree that at least one more stanza would help, especially when we hardly ever sing the present stanza without repeating it once or twice. In our talk with Mr. Rhodes we suggested that, if he did not especially care to add another stanza to the song, we would run a contest in this paper, giving the members of the student body a chance to compose an additional stanza or two. Mr. Rhodes im mediately endorsed our plan and said that he would more than likel> participate in the plan himself. In offering this privilege to the student body, we feel that it shows the depth of generosity of our honored alumnus. We hope that the student body will recog'nize this great opportunity and seize it with all the consideration that it is due.' It is indeed one of the greatest privileges that this paper has ever had to offer to the mem bers of the student body of 1928. 'I'he rules of the contest will appear elsewhere in this issue. Read them carefully and be sure to get your copy in on time.
