At times wo aie called upon to meet emergencies. When these emergencies arise, we should meet them deliberately and with determination. The avurage- student is able to cope with any usual emergency. If he summons his better powers, these emergencies will be successfully met and he will be the stronger. If he allows himself to be govern ed by selfish motives, the chances are that he will be conquered by the emergency and find himself possessed with inferiority complex. Lite doesn’t always go along like a song. Discords arise and ilie lack of harmony is evident. The ability to whip discord into harmony is otten times the measure of real manhood. Whoeve'- luuud everything to run smoothly in college, it seems to be pai or the game to discover inequalities in college admnistration inconsiderateness in college discipline. There is usually a certa: type of student who feels that he is being discriminated again; UiaL Ilia personal rights are being violated. However, when t; ■ good old days are gone and we are out in the world we perhap.^ will be able to discover our own shortcomings and lack of appre ciation of many honest and faithful efforts that were put forth in our behalf. W'e have had a few questions on our campus about which there have been differences of opinion, but usually in conference ana council we have been able to find a common meeting place and lo arrive at a mutual understanding. We trust to the good of all. This ia lo express a sincere appreciation of the student body or. Elon College campus for the Fall 1935, to wish for everyone a. Merry Christmas, health and happiness during their stay at home. Also I wish to ass,ure everyone that “our house” will be set and anxious for his return on January 2. L. E. SMITH ELON STUDENTS BARGAIN The Elon students made a bargain this week and should and will stick to it, good or bad. They were given their choice of re maining in school until Wednesday, 18th, or going home Saturday of this week and then giving up Washington’s birthday and two of the Spring Holidays’. Some wished one some another, but th“ majority asked that school turn out December 14th and return to work January 2nd., 1936. You have made your bargain. Those who wished it done anotho;.' way should be willing to be governed by the majority and those who voted tn on themselves should certainly never be heard to complain in the Spring when the holidays are two days short and Washington's birthda,y is taken up with regular school work for the first time in the history of the college. Any comments yoU wish to make will be appreciated. . Editor: I was under the impression that Elon students w'ere men and wo men, not children—that they are mentally mature, not imbeciles; but the activities on the campus for the past week have certainly been to the contrary . For the past three or four weeks the water supply on the campus and in the community has been gradually decreasin;^. l'or the past week there has been enough W'ater to quench the thirst ol all the students and enough left over to “keep down the smell”. Even with the water shortage, faucets in North Dormitory, sj the report says, were allowed to ri;n all night, “so we can go nome.” We come to college presumably to get an education. We pay good money and hard-earned money to the administration to secure this education. Our parents are rr;oking sacrifices to keep many of us here. YET, all these things considered, we destroy school property “TO GET TO GO HOME. You are paying to stay away tiom home, and you are destroy ing property and agitating the more sensible students in order to get to go home. Is that logi cal? Is it sensible? Is it “grown up”? The girls say, “It is injurin:-,-- my health!” Is a week on sponge baths any more injurious to ones health than smoking one to twen ty cigarettes a day? Is it any worse than making coffee, toast, etc. and eating it after lights are out at night; Why wait 3 week:, to start such a hullabaloo over the water shortage—it isn't a new thing? Why didn’t the student radi cais rise to lace the crisis oven two weeks ago, or one week ago" No, someone said "Let’s let all the water out and we’ll get to go home sooner.” Then the cry of “LET’S GO HOME! LET’S GO HOME!” started. Agitators fur- (Continued on Three) RADIO’S GREATEST TRIUPilP[] Startling! Gripping! Mysterious!
