PAGE FOUR MAROON AND GOLD Saturday. December 11, 1937 LIST’NIN’ Bowdens Entertain Young Ministers By Louie Hubbard Saturday night at 7:00. It’s time to drop everything and turn on the radio. Why? Because it’s time for the CBS Swing Club, one of the beat programs aired. At least, that’s what we think. The Swing Club is now in its fourth month of its second year and it is still going strong. One glance at the list of s-tars prasent- eJ on this program and you’ll readily say that its a regular “Who’s Who” of swing artists. Among the "cats” they have presented are Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, J'ack Teagarden, Frankie Trumbauer, Duke Elling ton, Bunny Berigan, “Fats” Wal ler, Carl Kress, Glen Gray, Teddy Wilson, Lionel Hampton, and others too numerous to mention. The Swing Club program actually “made” such stars as Benny Beri- gan, Casper Reardon, and the Raymond Scott quintet. Scott has his first airing via the Swing Club. His fine aggregation has been presented in Twentieth Cen- tury-Fox’s "‘Ali Baba Goes to Town.” That’s enough jive but if you really want to get knocked out, just be on hand on Saturdays at 7 p. m. You drama fans should get a real boot out of: Chase and Sanborn, Sunday 8, NBC-R; Lux Radio Theater, Mon day 9. CBS; Lights Out, Wednes day 12:30 A. M., NBC-R; March of Time. Thursday, 8:30, NBC-R: We, the People, Thursday, 7:30 CBS; Maxwell House, Thursday, 9 NBC-R; First Nighter, Friday 10, NBC-R; True Story Contest, Fri day, 10-30 NBC-R. Just as it captivated America wher, ’j«th NBC and CBS networks featured it recently, 3o WPTF thinks it own “Streamlined Shakespeare” presentations will reach attentive ears whom they are inagurated on Friday, Decem ber 10. Leading members of the famous Carolina Playmakers, who recently gave an excellent bill of plays at Elon, will at that time present a condensed verjion of the immortal Bard’s “Romeo and Ju liet”, under the direction of How ard Bailey. The entire radio presentation will require only 46 minutes for producticm, but so Kkillfully has the adapter desigm- ed the drama that no narration is necessary to link the various scenes, and yet no essence of Shakespeare’s masterpiece has been lost. “Romeo and Juliet” is xne of WPTF’S most elaborate ventures in its new search for ta lent policy. In order to prevent interrupting the NBC concert and to provide listeners with one of radio’s great est hours of music, WPTF in Ra leigh has obtained permisison to switch its customary sign-off hour from 11 to 11:30 p. m. ejich Satur day, thus assuring the complete concert by the NBC Symphony Orchestra, which later in De cember will be conducted by the ■world-famous Arturo-Toscanini, who has returned to America sole ly for the purpose of conducting this brief series, a signal event in the pro^re^s of mus.ic in this na tion. Aside to Capillary: Oswald comes on with Ken Murray on the Hollywood Hotel Program on Friday night at 9:00 on Columbia. Thanks, “Cap”, for our first question.
