Last Tuesday night the Elon
faculty could just as well have
called the roll in Raleigh, but for
last minute news of Artie Shaw’s
illness. The occasion was to have
been the only North Carolina ap
pearance of Art Shaw and his or
chestra and was scheduled for the
Memorial Auditorium. It is only
natural for Shaw, who recently
copped No. 1 position in Bill
board's popularity poll, to draw
a capacity house anywhere. I
Jack Teagarden’s new band has
moved into New York’s famed
Roseland Ballroom, probably the
best known taxi dance hall in the
world. The organization which
“Big T” has assembled will un-,
doubtedly be in the upper brack
ets soon. He can be heard on
Sundays and Thursdays at 11:30.
’Tis rumored that Teddy Wilson’s
new band will be ready soon and
will replace Woody Hermen at
New York’s Famous Door. In
a recent broadcast Bob Hope
said, “I was offered $1000 to play
opposite Hedy Lamarr but I de
cided I couldn’t afford that much.”
WPTF, Raleigh, has established
the best recorded program on the
air, the Sun Dial which can be
heard every morning from 6:30-
9:00 with the exception of about
two 15-minute programs. Catch
Phil Baker tonight at 9:00 on CBS
for one of the better comedy
shows.
One of America’s most popular
stylists of the dance will be
brought to radio through WPTF,
Raleigh, Saturday, April 15th,
9:30-10:00 p. m., when the music
of Isham Jones and his ork will
be aired direct from N. C. State
College. Occasion will be the an
nual “Engineers Brawl” to be held
at the college in Frank Thompson
