MALVIN ARTLEY Playing leading roles in the thirty-fifth annual presentation of Handel’s “The Messiah” in Elon’s Whitley Auditorium last Sunday afternoon, December 3rd, were three members of the college music faculty who are pictured above. Prof. Wendell Bartholf, who once more directed the Elon Choir in the great Yule season oratorio, also appeared as tenor soloist. Dean Fletcher Moore, who was again the organ accompsnist, filled a role he has held for many years. Dr. Malvin Artley, conductor of the Elon College-Community Orchestra, directed that group, which joined with the Elon Choir in the annual pre-Christmas presentation. The Order of the Oak was established “to rec ognize superior scholar ship, to encourage intel lectual achievement and to foster the liberal and critical mind.” To be el igible, a student must have at least junior stand ing, be of good character, and have a cumulative grade point average of 3,30 quality points per semester hour of aca demic credits. The new members in ducted at the ceremonies this week included Edna Gail Brantley, junior ac counting major, of Latti- (Continued on page 4) Student Group Will Leave Next Friday By KEN HOLLINGSWORTH Fifty-five members of the Elon College Singers, the student choir group, will leave the campus next Friday morning, Decem ber 15th, for a Christ mas tour through Geor gia and Florida. The Choir, which has just scored another tri umph in its thirty-fifth campus presentation of Handel’s ‘The Messiah,” will present that same great Yule season ora torio on the Georgia- Florida tour under the direction of Prof. Wen dell Bartholf, with Dean Fletcher C. Moore ser ving as accompanist on tour as he has on cam pus. Also travelling with the Elon Choir on its trip into the Deep South will be Dr. J. E. Danieley, Elon College president, and Tyrone Rowell, the associate alumni secre tary for the college. President Danieley and the alumni officials will take advantage of the Deep South trip to meet alum ni of Elon College in the ears where the Elon Choir performs, and invitations have already been sent to ali'm.ii in the Atlanta a- rea and in northern Flor ida to attend pre-concert coffee hours.
