Dr. Stokes Attends Several Meetings CHOIR WILL PRESENT MESSIAH’ IN TWO CHURCHES Dr. Durward Stokes, member of the Elon Col lege history faculty,has had a busy schedule dur ing this fall term, with several special activities in addition to his regular teaching schedule. He has attended no less than three special pro grams during the term, beginning with attendance at the Conference on Early American History held at Clem son Univer sity in South Carolina on October 3rd and 4th. He also represented the national Pi Gamma Mu Society at the inagura- tion of President Mill at Bennett College in Greensboro on October 12th, and he attended the annual meeting of the Sou thern Historial Associa tion, which was held in New Orleans, La., dur ing the period from No vember 6th to 11th. VOLLEY BALL The Staley Hall girls won the title in the volley ball contest staged by the WAA this fall, with Delta Upsilon Kappa second and Pi Kappa Tau third in the standings. The Elon College Choir, which won the plaudits of two large groups of area music lovers with two presentations of Handel’s “The Messiah” last week, is shown above. The student singers will travel to Durham and Fuquay-Varina this coming Sunday for two renditions of the great Yule season oratorio, appearing in both places under auspices of the local United Church of Christ groups and under the direction of Prof. Richard Apperson. Y., was nam ed as “Sweetheart of Sig ma Mu” this fall by an overwhelming vote of members of the Masonic affiliated fraternity, and her first duty was to serve as sponsor for the local fraternity group atHome- coming. Miss Anulis, an elementary education major, is a varsity cheer leader, a pledge of Pi Kap pa Tau sorority, and a member of a number of SGA committees. She plans to teach following graduation. to get underway on Tues day, January 14th. That winter term will contin ue until Friday, Februarv 7 th.
