S.G.A. PRESIDENT RESIGNS
By A1 Zink
A special meeting of the Senate was called last night, December 8, by
Vice-President and Speaker of the Senate, Mr Lee Loy. Loy informed the Senate
that SGA President, Mr. William Comninaki, had submitted his resignation
of office. Loy said that Comninaki resigned for personal reasons.
According to Article 4, Section 3, Subsection B of the Constitution,
The Vice-President of the Student Government shall succeed to the presidency
should that office become vacant.” Loy was then sworn in to the office of
President.
Elections for the office of Vice-President will be held Friday, Dec 12.
Filing for office began immediately after the Senate meeting and will
continue through Thursday. Campaign speeches will be held on Thursday, Dec 11;
the time and place are indefinite. If a run-off election is necessary, it
will be held on Tuesday, Dec 16.
I talked with President Loy after the meeting; this was his statement.
" I haven't really absorbed what has happened yet. My only goal is to serve
the students of Elon College in the best way I know how. I want to work
closely with the Senate, and consult the students on major problems concerning
our campus."
Loy's immediate plans ? "Our first task is to elect an able Vice-President
and we'll proceed from there."
