Sigmas have decided to put their heads together with Kappa Psi Nu to come up with an original Home coming display. Tri Sigma would like to thank Kappa Psi for the entertainment they provided Friday night at their Brother-Sister Party? The sisters want to congratulate Carolyn DeLuca for being chosen as our Sigma Homecoming Spon sor and Patty Walker for being honored as TKE Sweetheart. DELTA ZETA Delta Zeta, the newest national sorority on the Elon campus, is off to a good start this year. The public was invited to the standards program on September 25 in which Coach Kelley discussed the pros and cons of the Olympics. It was quite successful. There is another program tentatively planned for November to which the public is also invited. The sisters have scheduled two money making projects for the near future. We will be selling poly wogs (candy) and colorful flowered key chains. Delta Zeta is backing Elon's foot ball team by making banners for the games. PHI MU Phi Mu Sorority began its new year with a sister picnic and swim ming party in Burlington. Before a swim in the pool, we had a brief meeting and meal where we wel comed Mrs. Bragg, our advisor. In other APO news, the chapter here at Elon was recently visited by the North Carolina Section 79 Chairman, Dennis Careatti, who commended the chapter for its out standing service this past year. Other topics discussed were future service and social functions, better An Insider's The purpose of this article is to inform the student body of bills passed by the Elon College Student Senate, and to more importantly, comment on the obstacles that confront Senate activities. On the twentieth of September, the Senate met to discuss and pass three bills basically related to each other. The first is a bill to appoint a Student Honor Court Official; the second is designed to appoint a Student Committee Chairman; while the third appoints student members for Student-Faculty Com- committees as the Lyceum, Student mittees. This final bill includes such Affairs and Judicial Review. In viewing the Senate in relation to its activities and responsibilities there is, first of all, one important fact that everyone should try to understand—THE SENATE FUNC TIONS FOR THE WELFARE OF THE STUDENT BODY. Secondly, in inter-chapter relations, and the National APO Conference, which is to be held in Denver this Decem ber, and to which representatives from Elon’s chapter are to attend. The brothers of APO wish to re mind all students and faculty mem bers to please take advantage of the campus suggestion box located at the switchboard in the Alamance building. SIGMA PHI EPSILON Words from Chief Hank Noka- gowia (the Jewish Navajo Indian Chief): The fall is here again and bananas are still yellow at Winn Dixie. Reports are coming in that the ping-pong balls are having a bad season at Burlington Sporting Goods, but we don’t care because the movie is better than the play. Koosh Man will be at Burger Chef next Thursday, so keep collecting those R. C. Cola bottle caps. Chief Hank’s weekly weather re port calls for scattered light, fol lowed by scattered dark. Hank’s horoscope for October 3-10 is: to stay in bed all week. Tune in next week for further re ports yesterday. KAPPA PSI NU Kappa Psi Nu Fraternity starts off its Fall Rush this week with a Brother-Sister Party, September 29, with Tri Sigma Sorority. Rush con tinues the following week with a Kappa Psi Nu smoker slated for Thursday, October 5. The brothers of Kappa Psi Nu are also working on their Home coming activities for the 1972 year. Thus far, the brothers have sche duled a campus display with Tri Sigma and a banquet for alumni. Congratulations to Chris Furcron, Kappa Psi Nu Sweetheart for the 1972-73 school year. summarizing these bills all I can say is that they are of a minor nature, and I sincerely hope that the Senate will be able to enact more significant legislation in the future. The majority of students on campus feel that the Senate is totally ineffective in implementing solid, constructive change at Elon. These people are right. However, the real reason why the Senate cannot function effectively is be cause the Administration strin gently regulates student activities. They encourage the students to act like mature adults and make decisions for themselves, but when the Senate attempts to implement these encouragements through constructive legislation, they are defeated at every turn. This type of policy is not only frustrating, it is also hypocritical. Thirdly, how often have you been embarrassed or even disgusted with the rules at Elon? The answer Amus the Hippo She was. He was. But Amus was not nearly so much, four his parents were bleading blood. Yes, only minutes after the dime you red what was written Amus lost his parents. (If your memory doesn’t remember George and Nina then it’s not important that you remem ber them.) Nina and George have died to death in each others arms. They died of amputation. The first thing that sprang into Amus’ sprung mind was to spring into action. Action was only twenty miles from there so Amus got there late. The only single clue he could find was a photo picture painting of Bobby Vee and the Crickets with a note on the back left hand corner near the center of the picture. NOTE: I killed Nina and George! yours with love, O.S.S. Amus just stood there crying as he sat. He knew what he must do in order to get it done in our next chapter he will. Is Chicken Little a left winger? Do you understand Economics? Who said “Eyeball”? Con cerning the rules the administration says “If you don’t like it here you can always leave.” However, if you do like it here and feel that Elon possesses potential, why not help develop that potential? It can be harnessed by the Student Senate if it will only be allowed to enact sensible student oriented legisla tion. Personally, I feel annoyed when a “mature adult” cannot drink on campus and visit a friend whenever he or she wishes. In summation, it would appear that the Student Senate is fettered by administrative restrictions and traditions that are obviously out moded. And something must be done to improve conditions socially and intellectually. Please help the Student Senate to do something about this situation.
