Frank Reynolds, the anchor
man of the ABC evening News
television program, will be on
campus today. The presentation
sponsored by the Public Affairs
Committee of Mr. Reynolds will
be held in Whitney Auditorium at
8:00 p.m.
Mr. Reynolds has gained in
valuable experience and
knowledge in his 25 years of
professional journalism.
Through his experience in con
junction with his special repor-
toriat style, he has attained
nation-wide respect and.fame.
A political specialist, Mr.
Reynolds was the ABC News
White House Correspondent for
three years. He has also covered
numerous presidential cam
paigns and conferences.
In 1960 and 1 964, Mr.
Reynolds followed closely the
campaign trails of the major can
didates. In 1966, he accom
panied President Johnson as he
campaigned for many
Democratic candidates. He was
with President Johnson when he
flew to Vietnam and to major
conferences held in various sec
tions of the world. In 1967 when
the President met with the
Organization of American States
in Uruguay, Mr. Reynolds was
present. He was also on the spot
at the summit meeting between
President Johnson and Soviet
Premier Aleksei Kosygin.
Mr. Reynolds was a regional
reporter for ABC on election day
in 1968 and his coverage of the
conventions reflected on his ex
cellence in journalism. He also
covered President Nixon’s
global trip and gave on the spot
coverage of the Paris peace
negotiations. When Cape
Kennedy was ready for lift-off
and when the funeral
ceremonies for General Dwight
D. Eisenhower were In progress.
Mr. Reynolds was present.
Among his other
achievements, Mr. Reynolds is
especially noted for having been
awarded the George Foster
Peabody Award for television
news broadcasting In 1969. His
frequent and perspicacious
commentaries on national as
well as global events won him
this award.
Mr. Reynolds is said to be a
fine speaker who’s rapport with
students is remarkable. Hood
College portrays him as a man
‘‘with great wit, voicing his con
victions and at the same time
presenting other opinions.” He
has also spoken at the University
of Florida where he was describ
ed as "a man of rare sensitivity
who is thought-provoking."

Dr. James A. Moncure, former dean of University College of the
University of Richmond, was recently appointed to the post of Vice
President in charge of Academic and Student Affairs here at Elon. He
received his B.A. In History from University of Richmond, and his M.A.
and Ph.D. in English History from Columbia University. He assumed
his duties on March first of this year. The following is the result of a re
cent interview with Vice President Moncure:
DIMENSIONS: It was Stated In the last issue that you would be working
on internal affairs, could you please elaborate on this?
DR. MONCURE: "The title of my position Is Vice President for Student
and Academic Affairs, that’s all internal. Academic would deal with the
educational process in the formal sense, the academic program, the
degree programs, the associate award programs, classroom-faculty
development, program development: that’s one side of it. The second
is student life. Here we’re talking about cocurricular programs, social
life programs, student life support programs; such as dormitories,
health services, food service, counseling, and disciplines. These are to
be the basic areas."
DIMENSIONS: What new courses or department expansions, if any,
are you planning?
DR. MONCURE: "I’m not trying to grab hold of new programs until I've
had a chance to familiarize myself more adequately with the existing
programs, and can make a judgement about them. One thing you
don’t want to do is go into a situation and not have the sensitivity to ap
preciate what the people have been doing. Dean Strum is a highly
competent person and has been doing a good job in this area and
