Yow helped Elen’s women’s
basketball team defeat the
University of Kentucky’s
basketball squad in a regional
tournament.
Now she has been appointed
Kentucky’s coach — the first
full-time women’s basketball or
£my athletic coach in the state.
Miss Yow believes her
Kentucky team just needs time
to develop.
Miss Yow, whose sister Kay
Yow coaches at N.C. State,
believes that she can build the
Kentucky program up to one of
great quality and good
competition.

The 1976-77 cheerleading squad is boosting Elon College school
spirit as the Christians battle other colleges and universities.
The cheerleading squad is made up of Catherine Watkins,
Kathleen Butler, Gwendolyn Crawford, Karon DeClark, Eve
Donahue, Christy Jones, Lynn Nessett, Ann WashbumTand Mary
Womber. The new adviser for the spirited group is Coath Barbara
Yarborough.
Students £ire urged to support the teams this year and join with
the ’76 cheerleaders to boost Elon College to many victories this
year.
Ski course is
offered to
Elon students
Elon College in conjunction
with the French-Swiss Ski
College in Blowing Rock, N.C.
will hold a snow skiing class
open to Elon students Dec.
19-23. "The experience is one
which every college student
should have before he or she
graduates,” commented Elon
instructor Don Kelly.
The fee for the classes is $75
which includes a variety of
items: five sessions of skiing (1
night, 4 days) unlimited
instruction, all equipment,
boots, skis and jwles, slope fees,
lift fees, lodging for five nights,
accident insurance, and
membership in the
French-Swiss Ski Club.
One of the teaching topics
will be the 'Team stop power.”
The revolutionary new
technique is used to teach how
to stop and control snow skis the
first time you put them on. It
was developed for the U.S.
Army 5th Special Forces Green
Beret Winter Training Orbit
Shot I and II.
The five-day class is open to
all Elan students. Those
interested should contact Don
Kelly in the P.E. department as
soon as possible concerning
registration.
