Clinic is a success
Elon to attend council
This spring Elon will par
ticipate in the Student Run
Simulation of the National Se
curity Council (S.R.S.N.S.C.),
which wil be held in early April
of 1978 at the University of
North Carolina at Greensboro.
Elon will be represented by a
student delegation which is
now in the process of being
chosen by a faculty-student
committee which attended a
preparatory conference in
Charlotte, N.C. on Nov. 19.
The S.R.S.N.S.C. will be
held in conjunction with the
North Carolina Political
Science Association which will
present awards for best rep
resentation. Elon’s delegation
which will be comprised of
four students, and adviser Dr.
Rudolph Zarzar will represent
the country of Romania during
the three-day simulation. The
simulation will be the cumu
lation of a semester’s research
in the workings of the security
council and specifically tht of
Romania’s governmental poli
cy, procedures and diplomacy.
Issues which will be before the
council will be that of the west
bank of the Jordan River and
the river itself.
According to Dr. Zarzar,
“This simulation will require
each student to not only be
knowledgable, but also a crea
tive and imaginative orator
who is versed in diplomatic
practice. Aside from the fact
that the student will receive
three hours’ credit for the
work which is required, the
student will also gain first
hand experience of the security
council operations, broaden
perspective of international
problems, and acquire some
knowledge of the international
actors.”

Heavy rain and high winds
were the cause of the “less
than expected” turnout for
Monday’s Sickle Cell Clinic,
sponsored by the Black Cul
tural Society.
“The turnout was better
than expected,” says Dianne
Downing, outreach coordina
tor for the Triad Sickle Cell
Foundation.
Many curious students of all
origins found time to stop in
the Long Building lobby to
watch the sickle cell filmstrip.

Many said they dreaded the
prick in the finger. Results of
the test will be mailed after
Christmas. Those having ab
normal hemoglobin will be
contacted by telephone for the
follow-up counseling services
offered by the foundation.
“The first project of the
1977-78 school year for the
Black Cultural Society was a
success,” said President Gwen
dolyn Crawford, “and we
hope for many more.”
Town gains new eatery

Elon College continues to
grow as a new national chain
restaurant opens soon in the
town. A Pizza Hut, located in
front of Winn Dixie will open
sometime in January, much to
the delight of Elon students.
The restaurant will provide
many benefits to the com
munity, supplying several jobs
for students, creating a new tax
source for the town of Elon
College, and providing Elon
students a reasonable alterna
tive to the cafeteria and
Hardee’s.
The Pizza Hut menu offers a
variety of Italian foods in
cluding pizza, pasta, spaghetti
and an elaborate salad bar.
Although a family atmosphere
is predominant, beer is sold
with meals.
