Dorm governments to set policy by Jeff Batts “You people were given no power when you were elected to this position, but you have the ability to make things happen,” said Area Coordi nator Frank Mianzo at the first meeting of the Elon College House Government Association. He was address ing the officers elected to represent the dormitories for this year. Mianzo stressed change in the dormitory government with emphasis on bringing people together. “There are people thai live next door to some of you that you don’t even know. The board will be here next Wednesday to discuss the progress report on the com pletion of the PRIDE cam paign, introduce new board members and hear the report from the president on the status of the college and the 1978-79 progress report. Robert Baxter, vice presi dent for legal affairs, says that the schedule for the meeting is tentative, and may be changed at the last minute. Following lunch, the board will divide into committees to discuss various asp>ects of college life at Elon. These meetings will be held in the new Learning Resources Cen ter, the library and Alamance Building. Robin Moser of the SGA will meet with the campus Ufe committee. Speaker of the Senate Annette Metcalf will be with the educational com mittee, and a representative from the business affairs of fice will meet with the busi ness committee. The campus life commit tee’s agenda currently consists of discussions on the Harper Center Living Learning Cen ter, the community program, the career planning project, and Robin Moser’s SGA re port. Robin Moser, SGA presi dent, also spoke on visitation. She urged students to “pull together and voice their opin ion in unity.” “The administration has said visitation will be a policy at Elon,” Moser said, “but not until 1985.” Professor Richard T. Ap- person will present a faculty organ recit^ Sunday at 4 p.m. in Whitley Auditorium. A native of Newport News, Va., Prof. Apperson was awarded a scholarship from the Presser Foundation of Philadelphia to work toward his bachelor’s degree at Elon College. During his student years at Elon, he won first place in the statewide contest sponsored by the North Caro lina Federation of Music Clubs and won first place in the Southeastern district, en compassing North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, and Ala bama. After graduating from Elon College, Prof. Apperson earned the master of sacred music degree from the School of Sacred Music at Union Theological Seminary, New York City. While a graduate student at Union, he was appointed assistant organist- choirmaster at St. James Episcopal Church on Madison Avenue, New York City. He has played many recitals in the eastern United States and has been soloist with the North Carolina Symphony. cont. to p. 5 •!* Professor Richard T.
