February 8,1979 The Pendulum Page 5 Sports Lacrosse club begins practice; ECU and Clemson top schedule The Elon Lacrosse Club started practices on Monday, Feb. 5, and an enthusiastic turnout has added to the team’s hopes for a successful 1979 season, says one veteran player. Elon*s schedule for Ithis season consists of 10! games, four to be played at home. As usual, the competi tion will be tough—East Carolina, South Carolina, are once again on the sche dule. along with arch- rival Guilford. The club is currently pre paring for its season opener, on Feb 24 in Atlanta vs. Georgia tech. Elon upset Tech last year by a score of 9-7, and will be trying to repeat that feat this season, fol lowing day, Elon will visit Clemson before returning home for a game vs. South Carolina on March 3. Leading Elon will be at- tackman Paul Jamme, who holds virtually all of the club’s scoring records. Other players returning from the ’78 squad include midfielders Keith Scott and Howard Wheatley; Elon will also be relying heavily on returning attackman John Hitch and David Landskroener, defense- men Greg Piper, Andy Weav er and Scott Montgomery, and all of the freshmen mem bers of the team. The club will be trying to improve on last year’s 6-6 record — no easy task, since this season’s competition is made up primarily of varsity teams which are supported by their respective schools. How ever, the lack of college funding from which Elon’s lacrosse program suffers will no doubt be made up for in ’79 by the enthusiasm of the players involved.
