“Touch” the nationally
known mime trio of the Art
School in Carrboro, will
appear at 8 tonight in
Moony Theater.
The art of mime has wit
nessed a tremendous surge in
popularity during the last 10
years. One factor contribut
ing to this surge in popular-
;ity are the mimists Shields
landYarnell, whose' Siyndicated
television show ran last year.
“Touch” has developed a
contemporary style of
mime. By improvising with
their audience, they break
through the “fourth wall”
that usually separates players
from viewers. “Touch” be
lieves the theater can provide
an element of human ex
perience which helps the au
dience directly identify with
the characters on stage.
Their program of original
mime pieces ranges in mood
from silly to serious, de
pending on the personality
of the audience. “Touch”
believes in audience partici
pation and improvisation.
“Touch” is composed of
three artists, Heila Kerrigan,
Jef Lambdin, and Laurie
Wolf. They met at a mime
school in Florida in 1975
and began performing to
gether in 1976. The group

Sun eclipse is
century’s last
Edited by Keith Nelson
North America’s last total
eclipse of this century will be
Feb. 26 in the northwestern
United States and Central
Canada.
The rest of the country
will see a partial eclipse if
clouds do not obscure it.
Experts advise people not
to look directly into the sun.
To watch the eclipse through
smoked glasses, black nega
tives, or sunglasses offers no
protection against the sun’s
corona. If one would look
into the sun for even 10
seconds, there would be per
manent partial blindness.
Should one wish to observe
the eclipse, a safe way is to
put a pinhole in the end of a
cardboard box. Turn the
hole towards the sun and the
image will be cast on the
opposite end of the box.
For an eclipse to be pho
tographed, a special gelatin
ous filter should be used.
Telescopes, unless properly
equipped, should not be
used, nor should binoculars
since they will concentrate
the sun’s rays.
The maximum duration of
this total eclipse will be two
minutes and 52 seconds near
Lake Winnipeg, Ontario.
THERE JS A
DIFFERENCE!
