Page 2 Visitation, a milestone SGA President Robin Moser and Elon College Senate have reached a major milestone in legislation as the Campus Life Committee of the Board of Trustees voted unanimously to recommend that the total Board delegate to the committee the responsibility for setting residence hall visitation policy. Working in close conjunction with the college Administra tion the committee and not the total Board has the authority to review and act on policy concerning visitation. This is definitely a step in the right direction. The bill allowing alcohol in the dorms followed this same procedure • thus resulting in its approval. Visitation has been the major issue and presidential platform for the past several years. It appears that on the 90th anniversary of the college the maturity level of students in male-female relations has reached a point where we are actiirJl> trusted in the same dorm room with each other. i'he regular suitcase college syndrome may even dissolve as a result of visitation. The weekend population of Elon College may even increase from the usual 900 to 1000. If the students are allowed to study and talk legally in a dormitory environment, what will happen to the dockets of the Honor Court? With a decrease of visitation violations, what will keep our;distinguished judicial branch busy? Without a visitation bill to bring up every semester, the Senate may go into a culture shock. What will the Board of Trustees think when they aren’t faced with this bill twice a year and everytime possible in between? Elon College just won’t be the same without the good ole visitation bill around. the If the Campus Life Committee acts favorably the nreviously exaggerated hypothetical situation wont be so hvnothetical After visitation is behind us,the college wW take The college r.nally 80 0. The hearing is being held in order to obtain suggestions of stu dents, faculty, and adminis tration, as to how their SGA may be improved. The hear ing will be at 6 p.m. in the Senate chamber. All those in terested are asked to come and give their ideas. Written suggestions will also be ac cepted. Jim Stevenson the proposed visitation resolu tion has taken. It has changed jurisdiction from a total Board responsibility to the Campus Life Committee. The success of this resolu tion is the result of hard work of many Senates; however, 1 think that the SGA president, Robin Moser, should be es pecially commended for her efforts. Her determination and per sistence in trying to achieve a positive result from the bill deserves special commenda tion. Being only the second fe male in Elon’s gallery of SGA presidents, Robin leaves noth ing to be desired in her ability to serve the students as presi dent.
