Religious Life to sponsor CROP
by Joy Hamilton
The Religious Life Com
mittee is sponsoring the third
annual hunger fast for the
Community Hunger Appeal
of Church World Service
(CROP) The fast, to last for
28 hours, will start Wednes
day afternoon at 1:30.
CROP strives to do two
things; to make people aware
of the extent and nature of
world hunger and to raise
money for the Church World
Service. (CWS). CWS does
more than simply hand out
food in foreign countries; it
teaches people how to farm
and raise their own food.
CWS also provides technical
Richard Wordsworth
consultants, seeds for planting
and emergency aid for disas
ter victims.
Dr. Carole Chase, a spon
sor for the CROP fast, said
“1 hope this year we break the
$2,000 mark. Of the money
raised we will be able to
earmark 25 percent for a local
cause like Meals on Wheels.”
The rest of the money will
provide direct food aid in a
crisis situation and teach peo
ple how to grow their own
food.” About eight percent
covers administrative costs.
Dr. Chase went on to say
“Most people don’t believe
hunger is a problem, but one
ninth of the 4 billion people
in the world are permanently
hungry. We have hungry peo
ple in America. 10 million
Americans are undernou
rished.” j
Dr. CJiase’s class entitled
“Hunger; A Theological On
Moral Analysis” is preparing
an exhibit on hunger that will
be displayed in the library
starting April 6.
Dr. Chase said, “Bill park

leadership skills.
“Up with People” began in
1968 as a reaction to the
standard protest movement.
While the students were pro
testing and writing poetry
about the pessimistic ideas
and bad points of the world,
the group sang and wrote
about the optimistic valves.
A highlight of the show is
the stunning tune “Give the
Children Back Their Child
hood,” a song about children
growing up too fast in broken
homes.
The group has played in
many widely publicized
events. They include Super
Bowl X, the Indianapolis 500
race in ’78 and in March they
became the first singing group
to play before the People’s
republic of China.
The group travels from city
to city with the hope they will
be housed in various homes
of the area.The students are

Poetry and prose

Richard Wordsworth, Brit

ley Auditorium Tuesday night
completely spellbinding his
audience. His one-man show
was entitled “The poetry and
Prose of the Wordsworth
Circle,” and featured a varia-
ty of works.
Wordsworth performed
works by his great-great
grandfather, William Words
worth, and works by Samuel
Taylor Coleridge,- Charles

worth. In Lamb’s “Old
China” the characters in the
teacups came alive.
Wordsworth also per
formed for Dr. Angyal’s In

scenes from various Shakes
pearean plays, including
“Hamlet” “The Tempest”
and “Twelth Night.”
He spoke concerning the
actor’s approach to Shakes
peare and what he can do to
make the performance more
believiable and understandable
to the audience. Indeed, his
scenes were realistic and really
