Page 8, The Pendulum November 1, 1979 Riddle returns to post by Vicki Blankenship Running their score to 4-3 and 2-2 in SAC-8 play, the Fightin’ Christians’ football team defeated Gardner-Webb 50-14. Bobby Hedrick led the Elon offense with 160 yards rushing on 23 carries and scoring 4 touchdowns. Quarterback Mike Currin had a good afternoon with 115 yards passing and 78 yards rushing. Tight end Joey Hackett caught two passes for 31 yards. Captain James Riddle re turn^ to his defensive line- backing post after his injury and intercepted two passes to lead Elon in stopping Gard- ner-Webb’s offense. Strong safety Charles Womack blocked a punt for a safety and end Reggie Tice played well with a number of tackles and quarterback sacks. The Christians will travel to Newberry, S.C., to take on the Newberry Indians in a 7:30 p.m. contest Saturday. Lady spikers beat Atlantic by Vicki Blankensiiip The women’s volleyball team had a busy schedule this week playing eight matches. The lady spikers traveled to Pembroke University to com plete in the Carolinas Con ference Tournament and played in six matches where they came out fourth in the tournament. The Golden Girls defeated Atlantic Christian twice and Catawba once and lost to N.C. Central, High Point College, and Pembroke Uni versity. Barby Adcock’s consistent performance won her an “AIF Conference Player” award, and Sue Bias won a “Caro linas Conference” award. Both girls are juniors and will be returning for next year’s team. Bias is a co-captain on this year’s team and is known for her powerful overhead serve. The Golden Girls also hosted a double inatch with Elizabeth City and Bennett College. Elon defeated Eliza beth City 15-7, 15-9 and defeated Bennett College 15-4, 15-2. These wins put the team’s record at 8-15 overall. Students! Her play won her the honor of making the “All Conference” team. Goalie makes 13 saves by Vicki Blankenship Shutting out Campbell University 2-0 and tying with Belmont-Abbey 2-2, the Elon soccer team now has a 8-6-1 record. George Bakatsias led Elon from his halfback post, sco ring Elon’s first goal and distributing the ball well throughout the game. Striker Nathan Pulkingham scored Scoreboard' Male player o f the week George Bakatsias, center midfielder for the Elon soccer team, has been leading the offense for the liooters. He has scored 4 goals and 3 assists for a total of 7 points.
