Shaw wins Greek of Year “Phi Mu encouraged me to be active, but Panhellenic broadened my perspective,” commented Vicki Shaw, 1981 Greek of the Year. “When I first heard about it I was shocked. To be honest I could not have been happier. All of the girls nominated were worthy, and I was honored when PW Mu nominated me.” How does one get nomi nated Greek of the Year? Virginia Davis, Panhellenic secretary explains, “Each sorority nominates the wo man of their choice. The nominee may be chosen from any sorority who has done the most in promoting a solid relationship with all Greeks. This person should have a good rapport and be cooperative with all.” “Vicki did more than her share of work, whenever we had a problem we turned to her. She does not represent any one sorority in her activites, but she takes all of the Greek organizations to heart,” concluded Davis. Vicki has been an active member of the Panhellenic for three years, and was on the Greek Week committee for one year. Her accom plishments include West Dorm representative, 1978; West Campus president, 1979; and senior class vice president, 1980-81. “It was a good feeling watching all Greeks become close. Greeks were just ha ving fun competing against one another. Greek Week end is supposed to bring Greeks together. It has no thing to do with who is rated number one on the Greek social scale, or on campus. Instead it is a portrayal of individual talenu and fun for all.” “When I was chosen Greek of the Year by the Panhellnic, I was on cloud nine. Panhellenic plays an integral role in sorority rela tionships and I’m proud to be a member in it,” con cluded Vicki. Drama Club production of ‘Our Town’ delights audiences by Joy Huniltoii The Elon College Drama Club’s production of “Our Town” last weekend was, for the most part, delightful, if not true to life. Lighting and sound effects helped make Grovers Cor ners, New Hampshire, (or maybe even a typical town like Elon College) come to life. The first act proved to be a little cumbersome and lengthy, but the second and third acts moved more swift ly- Katharine Moore-Clen- denen was excellent as Emi ly Webb. Her acting por trayed character depth and talent. Tony Parkinson, ano ther strong character, helped carry the show in his role of Dr. Gibbs. The 15-member cast was composed of volunteers; no grades or course work exis ted as did in prior years. Most of the cast were freshmen, and Dr. Angyal is already looking ahead to next year. Peyton Breeden performed well in a spot that was not type cast. Her role as Mrs. Webb showed more than most memorized lines ut tered at the right moment— it showed native talent. MaryLou Sayad also did a commendable job in the role of narrator. Tom Merricks added humor to the play in his portrayal of Simon Stim- son, the tipsy church choir director. The production was more than just delightful— it car ried a deeper meaning. In the third act after Emily’s death, she said, “Oh earth, you’re too wonderful for anyone to realize you. Do any human beings ever rea lize life while they live it— every minute?” Emily then concluded that all human beings were “just blind people.” Perhaps the production will help awaken the audience to the fullness and richness of life— while they are still living. raitKK OT THE YEAK \lckl Skaw, ■ amkw of PM Ma sororitjr, has bcca ckosea by tke PaakcOeak at tht Greek of tka Yaar.
