Page 8 The Pendulum Thursday, September 24, 1981 1 i AAUP plans state conference for October 9,10 The North Carolina Con ference of the American Association of University Professors will be held at Elon College on Oct. 9 and 10, Dr. Fred Watts, state president, has announced. Dr. Watts is associate pro fessor of political science at the collcge. Members of the organ ization will hear three special speakers dming the fall con ference. Dr. Mary Gray, professor of mathematics, statistics, and computer science at American Univer sity, Washington, D.C., will give the keynote speech at a dinner to be held in McEwen Dining Hall on Friday evening, Oct. 9. Dr. Gray is a candidate for president of the national AAUP. John Henley, president of the N.C. Council of Private Colleges and Universities and a former state senator, will speak on Saturday morning at Best Western Motel, Burlington, after the business meeting. Henley and a representative from the public universities will address the question of state assistance to private college and university students. After registration Friday, from 4 to 6 p.m., delegates will attend a reception at Priestley Fine Art Gallery, 100 North Williams Va., from 6 to 7:30, before the dinner in McEwen.
