26 vie for title of Elon Homecoming Queen by Richard Anderson This year’s candidates for Homecoming Queen include 26 nominees from various clubs, fraternities, sororities, and other student organiza tions. Among the sorority nom inees are Janice Watlington from DelU Sigma Theta, Teri Reeves from Phi Mu. Tracy Trimmer from Sigma Sigma Sigma, Lydia Grace from Alpha Sigma Alpha, and Laurie Michaud from Zeta Tau Alpha. Fraternity nominees arc Julie Talley from Kappa Sigma, Angie Rakes from Pi Kappa Phi, Twila Nave from Kappa Alpha, Amy Burch from Signu Pbd Epsilon, Becky LeBarron from Tau Kappa Epsilon, and Lisa Cannady from the Inter-fraternal Council. Dr. Robert Blake, adviser ' of Alpha Chi, was assisted during the ceremony by Dr. Chris White, academic dean, and Charlotte Alford, the ' newly elected president. Nancy McLawhorn also assist^ at the reception held after the ceremony. The inductees were Margaret Adams, Diane Anderson, Lora Arrington, Jo Bell, Lisa Brown, James Bula, Athena Butler, Charlotte Collins, Jean Goodman, Mary Goodman, Mary Honeycutt, Carrie Hurst, Pamela Jacobs, Karen Jones, Julie McGee, Tracy Mebane, Vanessa Mize, Ralph Mueller, Lisa Newbold, Carolyn O’ Conner, Carol Robinson, Loretta Rudd, Donna Stone, Lynn Tatro, Miguel Viso and Ann Wickham. Senate approves committees, freshmen class names officers ^ nn sirjiHemic vear buds Five bills introduced in the Oct. 15 senate meeting were approved by the Student Government senate. These bills include confirmation of SUB presents movie series The Student Union Board (SUB) has organized a series of movies for Elon students. The Friday night flicks will be free for students with ID cards; others will be charged SI.00 admission. AU movies will begin at 8 p.m. in Whitley Auditorium. SUB is presenting a variety of pictures for max imum appeal. “Cheech and Chong’s Next Movie” kicked off the series on Nov. 6. It will continue with Paul Simon’s “One Trick Pony” on Nov. 13; “Freebie and the Bean,” starring James Caan and Alan Arkin on Dec. 4; and Barbara Strei sand in “A Star Is Bom” on Dec. 11. The movie schedule will resume after Christmas hoU- days on Jan. 8 with “Blazing Saddles;’ and “The Exorcist” on Jan. 15. “Hooper” will be featured on Feb. 12; and Robert DeNiro and Jodie Foster will appear in “Taxi Driver” on FetT 26. “The Blues Brothers” will open on March 5. “Honeysuckle Rose” will be shown on April 9. “Return of the P^k Panther” on April 23. The flick series will conclude with “Buck Rogers m the 21st Century” on May 7 the Faculty Committee on Athletics with Lisa Woodle and Steve Johnson as stu dent members. A second bill confirmed the Liberal Arts Fortmi with student Diane McSheehy. Kim Steffen, Erin Boyle, and Tammy Cooke serving on the com mittee. A bill confirmed appoin tees to the Faculty Teacher Education Committee with Tracy Mebane and Teresa Warren on the committee. A bill also confirmed appoin tees to the Faculty Lyceum Committee with Terry Martin and Tammy Cooke. The last bill passed was the introduction of a Judicial Committee recommendation exempting absences at regular meetings for senators who have scheduled classes at senate time. Two issues of importance covered were the 1981-82 academic year budget which is almost complete and is expected to come out of the finance committee for the Nov. 19 meeting. The second topic is the possibility of a student guide to faculty and courses. A census to determine whether there is an interest among students for such a guide will be conducted before December. In addition, the following students were sworn in as freshman class officers: Robert Haulk, freshman class president; Robert Clark, vice-president; Michael Nutt, fresh man class secretary-trea- surer. The freshman senators are as follows: Timothy Saunders, Maureen McGrutt, Annie Spaniol, Stephen Mottola, Kimberly Barrett. Also sworn in as a senator was upperclassman Mark Van Kirk.
