WSOE needs
student support
WSOE is in a lot of trouble. The college is
thinking about not giving it the extra money that
the station needs to stay on the air.
That’s a real shame. The college really benefits
from WSOE, whether it realizes it or not. Not only
does the station make announcements about events
that are going on at Elon, but it supplies the
students with a lot of other information dealing
with religion, world news, student life and a wide
variety of other things.
It also supplies the Enghsh-Journalism majors
with the priceless experience of having on-the-air
experience and pressures. Students need this typ>e of
work in order to be better able to cope with the real
world.
I hope the college sees these things as the
committee decides whether to either let the station
run with a commercial license or give it the
additional money it needs. The students at WSOE
have worked hard for the station and it would be a
real waste to see it go down the drain.
Not only would this decision affect the radio
station, but in the future it may affect the college’s
other media sources. The administration could just
as easily cut the Pendulum, Phi Psi Cli and the
Colonnades if either one of them ever need
additional money to keep operating.
So not only does WSOE need to object to the
enormous budget cut they received, but the other
media needs to back them in requesting the
additional money. There needs to be a uniform
effort to try to keep WSOE alive and kicking,
because any of the other media could easily get cut.
Students can vote Nov, 2

Ballots are available for 30-day residents
Election Day, Nov. 2, is
quickly coming upon u$.
Students who do not live
within driving distance of
Elon still do not have to give
up their right to vote. But to
ensure that right, you need
to act immediately.
Students from this area
and those who have estab
lished a 30-day residency in
Alamance County need only
to register here in the
county. Questionnaires to
certify residency, are avail
able in the county’s public
libraries. North Carolina
residents who live outside
the area can still vote by
absentee ballot. They had
better not tarry in obtaining
a ballot. To get a ballot,
they have to have an immc~
diate rdative pick up the
necessary forms at the Board
of Elections in their hrane

county or write the board
raquesting the forms.
Lib Culp, director of the
Alamance County Board of
Elections, said that out-of-
state students should check
in their native states to find
wh*t the procedures in that
state are.
Because of the way appli
cations are processed and
the mailing required, she
said the sooner the applica
tion is in, the better.
Though this is an odd*
year dection, everyone, and
particularly students, should
vote and make careful con
sideration when doing so.
Students should be esped-
ally concerned as funds for
them and their schools are
becoming more and more
scarce and other financial
demands may continue to
drain these funds.
