This project will include a $2 million fine arts center, which will be located at the present site of the soccer field. At a news conference held on the campus, board chairman Thad Eure. N.C. Secretary of State, described the announce ment as a turning point for the college. He said. “The PRIDE II campaign is the second phase of an effort begun over seven years ago." PRIDE II means "Providing Resources for Institutional De velopment at Elon.” Dr. James Related story, photos on po,ge 3 Elon College campus today is for a fine arts facility,” Powell said. “Support for the fine arts is vital in today’s highly tech nological society, and a fine arts facility would provide a cultural focus for Alamance County." Core PRIDE II Besides the $2 million for the fine arts center, $500,000 will go towards improvements to existing college facilities, $2 million for scholarship endow ment, faculty and program de velopment and $1.2 million to continue annual fund giving at appropriate levels. The fine arts complex will house and further develop the present facilities for music, drama, dance and graphic arts. It will also provide "acilities for public performances and lectures. Included inside, the center are a recital hall, band room, classrooms, offices and practice rooms for musicians. Eure said that Powell’s lead ership and experience will be assets to the campaign. “Jim Powell is a valued member of our board of trustees and has shown remarkable leadership potential,” Eure said. “The greatest need on the Activities fill Parents Weekend The Elon College Parents Weekend 1983 will be Friday through Sunday and will feature a variety of events to entertain and inform visiting parents and students. The Talent Show will begin the activities at 8 p.m. Friday in Whitley Auditorium. The show will feature students perform ing acts ranging from songs to skits. The Alumni Associates are providing the grand prize of $100. Second and third prizes are $75 and $50. There will be three student judges and three facul ty judges. Registration at 9 a.m. will start Saturday’s events. Parents may pick up their tickets at this time for the weeks events at the Scott Plaza by the fountain. If weather is bad. registration will be inside Alamance. A parents meeting will be held in Whitley Auditorium at 10 a.m. Dr. Fred Young, president, will discuss the state of the college.
