This regionally popular group just finished touring with RCA recording artists Hall and Oates. Spring Fling ^84 kicks off today By Patricia Aycock Staff Writer Spring Fling is a major program on campus where we try to have a lot planned for that one weekend and to get the students outside and see what really goes on in being involved,” said Drew Van Horn, director of Student Activities. Spring Fling, sponsored by the SGA and SUB will be held this year on April 12,13, and 14. A wide variety of events will be held, with most of them occurring in the new area. Beginning this Thursday evening. Spring Fling kicks off with the movie Risky Business to be shown at 8 p.m. at the Harper Center Lake. Then Friday afternoon, a character artist will be present to do drawings of students. At 8:30 p.m., comedian Jack Gallagher will appear at Jordan Gym. At 9 p.m., the band called “States” will play. The concert should last until approximately 1 a.m. “States just got off a tour with Daryl Hall and John Oates and they received a great amount of recognition,” said Van Horn. “Their music ranges from New Wave to Rock and Roll. It really varies. They’ll play some Prince. But their roots are really in New Wave and Rock and Roll.” On Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m., there will be an organizational fair in which all the organizations on campus will have the See Spring Fling page 9 Three candidates vie for SGA president By Penny Thomas Features Editor The three candidates run ning for Student Government Association president, along »ith the other candidates run ning for executive offices, ipoke Tuesday in Mooney llieatre about their upcoming plans and goals if elected. In alphabetical order, the first candidate for the office of president is Chris Farrior, a iunior majoring in computer science and mathematics. Far mer said that he would like to sain the experience of holding •iiehigh office and said that he *ould be willing to support the students to the best of his ability. Student apathy has hin- lered growth of the student Chris Farrior body of Elon,” said the second candidate, Tim Malone. Malone is a 21-year-old junior majoring in business. He said that he would work on the prob lem of student apathy and also proposed to find ways to en- Tim Malone courage all senators to attend senate meetings. Malone also outlined other ideas on impro ving or developing student policies. The final presidential candi date to speak was junior Bob Bob Moser Moser, an English and political science major. Moser said that since he has served as vice president of SGA this year, he knows how the SGA and the col lege work. That knowledge, he said, is essential for the presi dent, because the office needs a person “with the knowledge, ability and guts to stand up to the administration.” Moser argued that he can provide the leadership “to build on his re cord as President.” Two candidates are cam paigning for the office of vice president. Michael Nutt, a 21- year-old junior majoring in business finance, said that he wants to continue to work to im prove student life by devoting his experience and responsi bility as an SGA senator to the office of vice president. He said that Elon is going through changes and he has the past knowledge to help even more things happen.
