Thursday, April 12, 1984 The Pendulum Page 9 Spring Fling continued from page 1 opportunity to participate. There will also be a clogging demon stration by the Elon College Cloggers and an ice cream social “Hopefully, next year we’ll have a lot more going on Satur day,” Van Horn said. “But with this year’s planning — we didn’t know what our budget was until late so we had to hold off booking people. We came to the point where we could only book so many.” Saturday evening, the Mighty Majors, a band from Greens boro, will be playing at the Best Western. The dance will begin at 9 p.m. The cover charge is $4 for singles and $7 for couples. Food and beverages will be provided also. Each student will be receiving a passport in his or her mail box. Students will receive one stamp (in order to avoid duplica tion) for each event that they attend. If a student attends all three major events, there is the possi bility for him or her to win a large cooler. For attending two events, a smaller prize such as a pony cooler will be offered. If a student attends just one, the prize might be a pair of sunglasses or a bottle of suntan oil. All prizes will be given away at the Saturday night dance. “Everybody who goes to the dance will be eligible for the Bahama trip,” says Van Horn. “It’s explained in the passport. Everyone needs to keep their passports. That’s the key to the whole thing. If they hang on to those and turn them in, then they’re eligible for all those prizes.” In addition, the SGA and SUB will be giving away T-shirts to the first 10 people who attend the movie and ”...if we draw tickets, we’ll give away five T-shirts and five pairs of glasses,” said Van Horn. And then there’s the grand prize. According to Van Horn, 23 students will be in the group that is going to the Bahamas. The cost is $360 each, which includes transportation, the cruise itself and meals. For the winner, that student wi^l only have to provide money for extra food and spending money. “It’s a nice trip too,” said Van Horn. “When you’re on 55-foot ketches (two good-sized yachts), you have a lot of fun and you spend a lot of time getting sun — and cutting up too.” How does Spring Fling differ from last year? “We’re trying to cross all segments of the population this weekend,” he said. “We know a lot of students don’t like rock and roll, and a lot of students don’t dance, so we’re not trying to attract all the students. But we’re trying to make sure every student is represented. “Next year what we’re trying to do is book three good beach bands to play during the afternoon and then have a rock and roll band at night,” Van Horn concluded. Spring Fling. A chance to go to the Bahamas and have fun in the sun. All a person needs is (1) to participate in the planned events and (2) a little luck! Elections continued from page 1 candidate for vice president, said that “what I lack in experi ence, can be made up for in hard work.” The junior Compu ter Science major also said that he has a sincere interest in Elon College and that if elected he would dedicate himself to the responsibilities of being vice president. Although unapposed, cur rent Treasurer John Smith said that he likes his job and would like to continue the position. He said he would still like the students to vote.
