But the plan was contested by residents living close to the dormitories. “The main concern of the residents was noise,” said Beth Hetzel, Elon Town Manager. Hetzel said the residents along Haggard Ave nue and Arcadia Drive complained of the noise level now and objected to the building of the new dorms, fearing that the noise would in crease. Yet Elon College officials maintained that their plans include 325 feet of land from the proposed buildings to the residents’ property lines. Hetzel said the officials for the college promised to plant trees of various kinds along the residents’ property lines to provide the screen from the dormitories. The “buffer” zone is 125 feet adjacent to the screen so that nothing can be built in that area — especially parking. Another issue raised by the residents was the problem of property values decreasing. Howev er, the real estate assessors for Elon said that they would not decrease property values, according to Hetzel. On the other hand, a real estate assessor from Greensboro who attended the meeting said that the building of the dormitories would decrease this value. Work toward getting a crosswalk across Hag gard Avenue from the Oaks to the main campus. Plant barriers of at least three feet between the residents’ property and college land. Agree not to build a parking lot in the 125 feet buffer zone between the dormitories and Hag gard Avenue. The residents and their lawyer have 30 days to appeal their complaints to the court system if they so desire. Strikeout artist Elons McDannold whiffs 17 A Sr' T batters
