This ^where the education comes . _ Children’s Transplant Associa tion and through them we’ve supported and assisted over 30 families so far.” Brooks commented that they have had support from crisis support groups, including the Death and Dying Support Group, the Chronically 111 Sup- J>ort Group and many others. “Primarily at first, we work ed with the liver transport and the children associated with it,” said Brooks. “Then it ex panded to the kidneys and the bone marrow. These are the jthree main organs that are needed for transport opera tions.” h The Pendulum Other needed donations in clude blood donations, espe cially for those persons with rare blood types, eye dona tions, skin donations for sev erely burned victims and other vital organ donations. (The eyes of Josh Brooks were don ated at the request of June and Rick Brooks.) An organ donor should talk with his family and physician to express the sincerity of commiting oneself to becoming a donor. There is no binding rule if the family may not consent or in the case that the donor changes his de cision. To become an organ donor a person must be 18 years of age and must sign the donor card in the presence of two witnesses indicating which organ(s) are to be donated. Said Brooks, “People have to die healthy and have to be of the same age or approximately by the age of the recipient in order for it to be a really good match.
