Musical Medley delights audience

If you are wondering what a
Mozart lookalike, a Robbie
Robot and a high school prom
were doing in Alumni Gym last
Sunday, then maybe you
should have been there.
.The cast of Up With People,
with more than 120 young peo
ple from 14 different countries,
performed to an enthusiastic
crowd that clapped, whistled,
swayed and sang along with the
group.
The two-hour musical in
cluded a little bit of everything,
from 50’s medleys, including
Elvis Presley’s “Blue Suede
Shoes,” to more modern, com
puterized performance by
“Robbie Robot and Tran-
sisters.”

The stage was a pastel
kaleidoscope of color as the
performers whirled around
stage, performing such dances
as the cake walk, the Polka,
breakdancing and even gym
nastic feats.
Songs such as “What Color is
God’s Skin?” and “Can We Sing
a Song of Peace?” expressed
the group’s concern with rac
ism and war. Many other songs
and dances represented va
rious different countries such
as Sweden, Mexico, Brazil,
Yuoslavia, Belgium, Poland
and Canada.

Spring Musical
Auditions for the Spring Musical Godspell are set for Sun.
Feb. 17 at7:30in Whitley and Tue. Feb. 19 in Monney Theatre,
The musical will use 5 men and 5 women as the principal
singer/dancer/actors, plus a “mime” character. Three musi
cians are needed as orchestra. Backstage workers are also
needed. Those chosen to participate in the production may
register late for Fine Arts 361—Theatre Workshop for 1-3
hours credit.
