Scottish group to perform
FOUR MAN BAND - Members of the Scottish band
“The Tannahill Weavers” play their traditional music
which sounds a lot like bluegrass or rock and roll.
The Scottish band, The Tan
nahill Weavers, will perform
traditional Celtic music to the
beat of rock and roll in a con
cert here next Monday night.
The four-man band uses in
struments ranging from bag
pipes to bouzoullis to fiddles.
They will appear at 8 p.m. in
Whitley Auditorium in a free
concert sponsored by SUB and
the Lyceum Committee.
Alan MacLeaod began the
band in Paisley, Scotland, with
his genius at the bagpipes and
was later joined by Roy Gul-
lane, with his guitar backing
and vocal skills, and Phil Smith
on flute.
Having toured for three
years. The Tannahills have
performed in more than a
dozen countries including
Canada and Europe, and have
produced five albums to date.
It wasn’t until their fourth
album, however, that the Tan
nahills were introduced to
American audiences in 1981.
With their latest album, Pas
sage, Doujie Madeun has been
added to the group as their fid
dler/guitarist.
