mil 111 II The Pendulum Thursday April 3, 1985 Volume XI, Number 23 No phone deposit fee to be charged next year By Loretta Bivins Staff Writer Students planning to live on campus next year will find some pleasant changes with the phone system. Currently, students pay $25 to have their phone connected and a $50 deposit on their account. If the bill is not paid on time, the money is then taken from the deposit fee. Next year, however, there will be no deposit fee, and students will not be charged to be connected to the campus phone system. According to Buck Bayliff. auxiliary service director for Elon, when students arrive next fall, they will be able to plug a phone into the outlet and will im mediately be able to call other students living on campus. members of the faculty and administration. A connection fee of $10 will give students access outside of campus; that is, they will be able to make calls outside of the 538-numbers. If the phone bill is not paid within 10 days of receiving it, the phone will be cut off and there will be a charge of $25 to regain service, Bayliff said. “Students who pay promptly can build up a credit reference with us," Bayhff said. “They can use Elon Telecom as a reference.” Elon will be providing telephones that can be purchased or rented, or students can bring one from home. There will also be a change in next April’s phone bill for students who are currently using Elon's phone system.
