Juniors Bobby Drakeford and Shane Jones are seeking the presidency. Robert Morabito. who has campaigned with Drakeford, is running for vice president against Jane Marie Jones, who originally had intend ed to run for president Shawn Coker and Aaron Chatkin are the candidates for treasurer. A change in the SGA constitu tion in March, clarifying that freshmen are eligible to run for executive offices, made possible the candidacies of Tom Mayes (president), Alex Cousins (vice president), and Beth Godsey, freshmen who had offered themselves as a team of candidates. The constitutional amendment was controversial because of what SGA President Bob Moser called “a procedural error” in its original passage at the March 21 senate meetings. But at an April 2 senate meeting, the legislators reversed themselves and decided against allowing freshmen to run for SGA executive offices. “The SGA Constitution hasn't Twister game been changed since the 1979-80 year. It's become pretty outdated in certain places,” said Moser. ‘‘The judicial committee of the senate had been meeting all year to discuss revisions and updates that are necessary." He said that in order for the constitution to change, an amendment has to be passed by two-thirds of the ma jority of the senate and two-thirds of the student body. ‘ ‘The plan had been to have the constitutional changes approved by the senate in time for the stu dent body to vote on it in conjunc tion with the campus-wide elec tion during the spring," said Moser. ‘‘One of the major changes that was under con sideration was a set of rules and qualifications for the SGA ex- See SGA page 6 Elon tries to break record By Mouche Maggio Staff Writer “Left foot yellow!” “Right leg green!" No, this is not the physical description of an unidentified fly ing object; but it’s a common howl heard while playing the game Twister. And on Saturday Elon College will be echoing such sounds by emcee WZKL radio disc jockey Sean Michaels, as Elon students and those from local high schools participate in what coordinator Scott Ward dubs “the Grand Twist.” Elon College will be attempting a Guinness Book record of the world’s largest Twister game, with proceeds going to the Elon Home for Children. Planning began in December when Student Union Board member Ward heard of other col leges trying to break the Guinness record set in 1984. Last year, Colgate University in New York, which has an enrollment of 14,000, had 1,036 players maneuver on the colored dots for three and a half hours. The blond sophomore from Chicago claims, “students are always looking for something big, so why not this?” So with the support of ITZA Pizza, Ward says, “Elon will get a chance to get on the map.” According to Ward, “We’re the only school under 14,000 enrollment to even attempt it," but that does not seem to deter him or the vice president of the Milton Bradley company. In a Greensboro News & Record ar ticle, reporter George Merritt compared the situation to a biblical text. “No one knew David could put Goliath away either," he said. “It all depends on whether the campus knows how to have fun." Elon gets the chance to have fun Saturday and will be donating to the Elon Home for Children at See Twist page 7 Elon nine cover all bases Witness film reviewed p. 7 Faculty tots on a hunt m
