■■III iieii The Pendulum Thursday May 2, 1985 Volume XI, Number 26 Jones tops Drakeford for SGA president Morabito is VP, Coker treasurer By Vicky Jiggetts Student Affairs Editor Shane Jones won the election for the SGA presidency with 353 votes to his opponent Bobby Drakeford’s 283 votes. Throughout the competitive elec tions. Drakeford campaigned with Robert Morabito, who won the election for vice president against Jane Marie Jones. Morabito had 326 votes and Jones had 290. In the race for treasurer, Shawn Cok-er won with a total of 349 votes, and his opponent, Aaron Chatkin, received 242 votes. During the voting process, some of the candidates complain ed that the ballot boxes were not at the designated places for students to vote. Under these cir cumstances, there was still a larger voter turnout than last year. In the 1984 primary elec tion, 439 people voted, and 399 voted in the runoff election. This year, it was not necessary to have a primary and runoff election because only two candidates were running for each executive office. A total of 636 votes were counted in this year’s election. Shane Jones is a junior public administration major from Raleigh. He said that one of his goals is "to be sensitive to the needs of all groups on campus, and to bring people from the dif ferent groups together.” His other goals include being “a strong voice for students, insur ing that students are represented well in discipline cases, and strong possibilities for changes in visitation.” See Elections page 5 Photo by Joe Coco SWEARING IN: SGA President Bob Moser swears in newly elected Shane Jones for 1985-86 president.
