Although the break included only one day—last Monday—it was welcomed by most students. ‘‘1 think fall break is a great idea,” said Dot Hayes, a sophomore from Henderson, N.C. Hayes enjoyed her break from studying by going with a neighbor to Emporia, Va. The two stayed at a house in the woods and hiked to the Meherrin River. However, she said that they “mainly relaxed.” Another student who enjoyed the woods during the break was Lisa Swim, a junior from Roanoke, Va. Swim went camp ing in Fairystone Park near Fer- rum, Va., and “had a wonderful time.” Swim said she liked the incorporation of fall break into the college’s schedule. While some students went to the woods and mountains, other students took a more spring break-like approach and went to the beach. Everett Godsey, a senior from Roanoke, Va., went to his mother’s condominium in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Taking his girlfriend and two other couples, Godsey said that he had a great time and that he feels very positive about fall break. “Fall break is an excellent idea. It’s time to take a break after mid-terms,” he said. Many students thought that the fall break should have been at least one day longer. ‘‘I thought it was good, but we needed Friday off also,” said was “too short, but a good break from classes.” While most of the Elon students went away for fall break, some remained on campus. Although Jimmy English, a senior from Gretna, Va., work ed at The Lighthouse all weekend, he said that fall break “was good but it should have been one more day like large universities.” When some students did go home, it wasn’t more than a five- s minute drive from the campus. This was the case for Susan Simp son, a senior from Burlington, Simpson said that her break con sisted of going home, watching soap operas, eating and shopping, “I loved it, but it should be longer,” she said. Whether fall break was too short or not, it is clear that many students at Elon enjoyed the break and feel that it should become a permanent addition to the col lege’s calendar. Another student who went to the beach was Steve West, a senior from Chincoteague, Va. West went to Wrightsville Beach where he “surfed, fished and rag ed.” West said, “Just having one extra day was a big relief.” Beth Burroughs, a junior from Mendhan, N.J. Burroughs said that the break should have been longer to accommodate those who live many hours from Elon. Gretchen Wolf, a junior from Norfolk, Va., said that the break JOSTENS White Lustrium RINGS CABLE TV Redeemable for $8.00 connection fee (new subscribers only) upcoming Nov. showtime movies: DUNE, CITY HEAT, THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY and LITTLE DRUMMER GIRL Offer good through Nov. 1, 1985 MMMWMMMMWMMWMMMMWMWMIMWMIMIMMMMMM See your Josten’s Representative NOV. 4 DATE; ill. & 5 10 to 4 TIME."
