According to a report filed with die Elon College Police Depart ment, the first attack occurred on Oct. 15 at about 8 p.m. at the chain- link fence between Hardee’s and the Oaks dormitories. The student was grabbed from behind by a man who placed his hand over her mouth and attempted to force her into a drainage ditch. The girl, however, kicked the man in the groin, broke free and screamed. The attacker fled, driving off in a rust-colored 1978 or 1979 Monte Carlo. According to another report, the second assault occurred on Oct. 23 at approximately II: 15 p.m. as a student was jogging on the track near the intersection of Williamson and Haggard avenues. A man walking on the track grabbed the student as she passed him and exposed himself to her, but the woman pushed him away and ran toward the dorms near Harper Lake. Police Chief Dan Ingle of Elon College said his department has a composite drawing of the suspect in the second assault, but he said investigators are not sure that both incidents were committed by the same man. The assailant in the second attack was a white male about six feet tall and about 23 to 30 years old, Ingle said. The person has brown hair and wore a baseball cap on both oc::asions, add^ Ingle. Although the attacker wore glasses on the second occasion, he wore none on the first. “Patrol has been beefed up around the track and the Oaks,” said Ingle. The police department has also requested and will receive assistance from the State Bureau of Investigation in apprehending the suspect. Ingle said the best precautions for students to take would be to refrain from walking alone and try to seek a route that is well lighted. Ingle also suggested that students carry a whistle to startle any assailant and attract attention. If a student needs to go somewhere but cannot find anyone to ac company her, Ingle said, she should contact the police department and they will be glad to provide an escort. % Alpha Chi induction Photo by Joe Coc Inductee Aaron Chatkin lights a candle as part of die Alpha Chi induction Sel% in Mooney Theatfe on Oct. 30.
