Intramurals
under way
The intramural season got
under way this week with the start
of flag football. Scrimmage
- games were scheduled for Mon
day and Tuesday, with the regular
season starting later in the week.
Games are scheduled for Mon
day through Thursday afternoons,
with starting times of 3:30, 4:30
and 5:30 p.m. Games are played
on the intramural fields located
across from the fire station.
Phil Markley, assistant in
tramural director, said the teams
will be divided into three divi
sions: Super, Regular and Girls.
The regular division will be split
into two leagues, with nine teams
in each, and the girls into two
with six teams in each.
The Super division will be
comprised of fraternity “A”
teams, plus the HEADS and Fifth
Edition. The Regular division will
be comprised of fraternity “B”
. teams and dorm teams.
The Sigma Pi FOADS will
return to defend their Super divi
sion title they won last year ty
beating TKE.
In addition to flag football, the
wacky games of “Almost
Anything Goes” gets underway
this week.
The event is sponsored by the
Intramural office, on Sunday from
2 to 4 p.m. on the Jordan Center
Field, which is located across
from the Fine Arts Center.
Each team will be performing
six required stunts—for example
running with an egg on a spoon—
and these events will be timed
with the winner having the best
time. Overall winners will be
found by the accumulation of
points, and will receive trophies
, for coming in first, second or
third.
All participants will receive a
T-shirt.

Elon Women Beaten In Opener
The Elon women’s soccer team began the season by taking on one
of the top women’s soccer teams in the country, the University of North
Carolina, in Chapel Hill, and came up on the short end of the stick.
The Tkrheels downed the Christians handily, 7-0. North Carolina scored
six goals in the first half.
The Elon women have a week off before competing in the Methodist
College Invitational, when they play Randolph-Macon in the first
round.
Averett Trips Christians
Elon’s men’s soocer team lost to Averett 2-1, on Saturd^. The Chris
tians’ lone goal was scored by Freshman Hunter Fitts. The loss drop>-
ped the men to 1-3 overall, 1-0 in conference play.
Spikers Drop Two in Doubleheader
Elon’s volleyball team opened the 1986 season with two tough losses,
spoiling the coaching debut of Susan Ray. In the first match
the Golden Girls lost to Mt. Olive by scores of 15-8, 2-15, 12-15. In
the second match of the evening, they were beaten Methodist by
scores of 2-15, 15-12, 13-15.
Ray said that the girls played well despite the two losses.
The home opener for the Golden Girls is tonight at 6 in East
Gym, as they take on Guilford and Mt. Olive.
