'I Following the Eagle touchdown, the Christians mounted a drive of their own, but the drive ended when Carson- Newman recovered an Elon fum ble at its own 25. Mth just under eight minutes left in the game, the Eagles scored when quarterback Edwin Lowrey hit wide receiver ftt Johnson with an eight yard touchdown pass. Once again the Eagles missed the extra point, and Elon’s lead was on three, at 15-12. Then the Christian defense went to work. After Elon punted, the Eagles were working their way down the field, and were looking at a 4-1 situation on their own 44. They decided to go for it, and Elon’s John Bradsher pentrated the line and dropped Lowrey for a loss with five minutes left in the game. Carson-Newman got the ball back with three minutes left in the game and needing a field goal for a tie or a score for the win. The Eagles picked up nbine yards on their first play. Lowrey was tackl ed for a loss on the next play, and tailback Ricky TYimer lost three yards in a 3-3 situation. Needing at least a field goal for the tie, the Eagles went for it on 4-6, and tackle Craig Castor came up with the big play, sacking Lowery for a 12 yard loss, ending the Eagles’ last dirve. The defense was led by a host of players who accumulated dou ble figures in tackles in the win. Russell Evans led the way with 15, Bines collected 12, Tun Farmer 11 and Rotmie Purcell, Bradsher, and Tim Ferrell all were in on 10. Castor vras in on eight hits, and added two quarterback sacks. Evans and Bradsher also collected a sack each. This week the Christians will venture away from the friendly confinds of Memorial Satdium, as the head to Hickory to take on the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears.
