( fq Page 2 i # r’\ Tijt jn'' . The Pendulum I V f' 'f ,?i|r1 Thursday, May 7, 1987 Editorials Campus Thefts A disturbingly trend has been increasingly obvious this spring at Elon. Students with sticky fingers are stealing property from room mates, professors and even a whole class of television production students. This small Christain school has turned into an easy target for the dishonest student. This past week an incident occurred which shook up the entire Com munications department. Two tapes containing a major project for the JMC 255 Television Production were stolen from the editing room in the Learning Resource Center. The classmates are not only miss ing out on the grade, but also the Tinished product of their first ex perience in commercial production. It is sad that one person or maybe more have jeopordized the trust, confidence, and respect of an entire dass. Acuity and department. This type of behavior should not be tolenied in the supposedly high grade student that Elon hopes to cultiN'Mc ia in body. This theft and other campus thefts will earn Eloo a reputation as a college where no one can be trusted. Carrie Town and John Ht^le Theater students to miss Olsen next fall To the editor: I'm writing this letter to let the school know what it is losing. I took Introduction to Theatre this past fall under professor Todd Olson. In the beginning, I felt uncomfortable having a teacher my age (23), but that was soon solved. Todd showed me and my fellow classmates that the theatre is alive and that we as students can enjoy the art of theatre. I have been a student at Elon College since 1982; to me and the peers I’ve talked with, theatre is more visable now at Elon. Unfor tunately, Todd will not be teaching here next year because he was not offered a parttime position. He will be acting this summer in Galveston, Texas, and hopes to work in theatre in Seattle after moving there in December. Elon College just built a new expensive Fine Arts Center. Why didn’t someone budget money for a ftilltime teacher in drama? Todd has acted or directed many plays this year: Greater TUna, Black Comedy, Trou ble in Tahiti, Hbridng. The students and feculty who attended the pl^s will agree, I hope, that they were excellent performances on everyone’s part. I hope someone has thought about how to keep students involved and interested in the theatre. It is a fact that 40-45 people came to audtion for Wjrldng our spring musical. This is over five times as many people who tried out last spring musical. This is over five times as many people who tried out spring. Whether acting or working backstage, working in the theatre gives you first hand experience in one of the arts. I and several fellow students are very sorry to see Todd leave, but wish him luck.
