ursdfiy^ m \ I THE PENDULUM 5 ROTC students spent summer in training lute - Students and faculty members of ROTC participated in a train- session at Fort Bragg, NC, over the summer. Captain Mark Bowers, Master Sergeant Charles Browning, Staff Sergeant Leonard Johnson and fourteen Elon College ROTC cadets were more active than ever this summer. Seven senior cadets successfully completed the six week Advanced Camp at Fort Bragg, NC. These cadets were Luke Ander son, Ralph Boggess, Jean Chausse, Anthony Handy, Thomas Heyden, Maria Martin and Antonio Roper. While at camp, the Elon students ^ trained along with more than 6000 other cadets from schools along the eastern seaboard ranging from Maine to Puerto Rico. During the Advanced Camp, the students were trained and evaluated on military subjects taught during the school year, including general military subjects, land navigation, military skills, physical training, tactics, supervision, management and leadership. During this three week period, the cadets performed the duties of a second lieutenant and received evaluations from active duty col onel. When asked what the purpose of the Army Reserve Officer’s Train ing Corps program at Elon College was. Captain Jackson replied, “Our ultimate mission is to recruit from the Elon student population, motivate students to learn, train to Army standards, select and retain quality students, and finally com mission the future leadership of the Army.” AskforBudLiaht^ q »r X I 3* jt j oxar.
