rt THE PENDULUM Thursday, September 8, 1988 Entertainment Saltwater music: Del Suggs will perform tonight, 8:00 in the Backdoor Recording Artist Del Suggs to perform tonight Spencer magic show The Student Union Board spon sored the illusions and magic of Kevin Spencer last night, when Spencer and his wife performed in the Fine Arts Theatre for an en thusiastic crowd. The Spencer’s were dynamic performers whose original presen tation of large scale illusions and audience participation magic pleas ed the college and community au dience. Spencer put on a stage show which was a unique 90 minute pro gram that left you baffled and amazed. It featured large grand il lusion like the incredible Metamor phosis — performed like you have never seen before. Del Suggs, popular singer and I songwriter, will bring his guitar to campus to perform tonight at 7 pm at The Backdoor. Suggs, one of Florida‘s premier performers will be coming to Elon College. He is one of the most popular performers on the college circuit, and he plays before standing-room-only crowds throughout the Southeast. A Florida native, Suggs per forms his own unique style, which he calls “Saltwater Music.” Drawing on his north Florida roots and gulfstream upbringing, Del Suggs has become one of the most popular performers on the college circuit. His new album, Wooden Boat, has just been released on Key Por poise Records, and it contains his most popular new material. His last album. Saltwater Music, has been compared to the best works of James Taylor, Jimmy Buffett and Paul Simon by the critics. It has received extensive na- . tional airplay after being endorsed by the National Federation of Com munity Broadcasters in Washington, DC. The album has sold thousands across America and as far away as Japan and New Zealand. Del is also a featured artist on the double album Steve Meisburg and Friends; In Concert. A performance by Del Suggs is a reflection of life—partly hilarious, partly serious, partly bittersweet—but always upbeat. Del is an engaging, caring, positive performer. He believes that life can be enriched by giving, and proves it through both his performances and his involvement with numerous en vironmental, charity, public service and civil liberty groups. His in tegrity and concern have won him the respect of his peers in perfor ming and student activities pro gramming. Del tours exclusively on the col lege circuit, and performs in con cert at over 75 schools a year. He has shared the stage with such notables as Garrison Keillor (Of Prairie Home Companion), The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Mac McAnally, Tim Weisberg, Gamble Rogers, Steve Meisburg, Jerry Clower, Pierce Pettis, and many others. Del has been recognized with endorsement agreements with Ova tion Guitars and Peavey Elec tronics. These fine companies pro vide him with outstanding guitars and sound equipment for tour sup port. Del Suggs has the deepest respect for his audience. He is flex ible enough to perform for nearly any audience—young or old, large or small, inside or outdoors. Auditions for Tintypes to be held On September 12 and 13, audi tions will be held at Elon College for the musical comedy “Tin types”. The audition times on Mon day, Sept. 12, will be 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 7:30 to 10:00 p.m. in the Yeager Recital Hall of the Fine Arts Building.
