“Everything is fine now and to the
best of my knowledge. Only a few
people are at home because they
could not document their vaccina
tion dates.”
Salter said the health department
will begin vaccinations just as soon
as one case is confirmed on cam
pus. “No students will be let into
class until they have been vac
cinated,” Salter said. “The same
goes for faculty and staff. We hope
it won’t get here, of course, but if
it does, we will be ready.”
The health services department
reports there are at least 800
students, faculty and staff on cam
pus who will need to be vac
cinated, and that number is ex
pected to rise. If you are not sure
if you have been vaccinated for the
measles, there are some steps you
should take.
First, wait and see if you get a
letter from the health services
department giving you information
about your records. If that doesn’t
help you, check with your family
doctor to see if you were vac
cinated after 15 months of age.
If that is a dead end and a case
is reported on campus, then
prepare to roll up thy sleeve.
Hopefully, this will all be avoid
ed.
The dreaded symptoms to
beware of are as follows: fever
over 102 degrees, coughing, run
ny nose, congestion and a blotchy
rash that starts at the face and con
tinues downward. If you are one
of the unlucky, then expect to
spend three to ten days in bed. That
is the only remedy.
