page 2 February 23, 1989 The Pendulum Wards establish $10,000 aid Mr. and Mrs. William Hunt Ward have established a $10,000 scholarship endowment to aid a deserving golfer at Elon College. Income from the endowment will be awarded annually to a member of the golf team selected by athletic department personnel. “This scholarship will be a significant addition to Elon’s athletic scholarship program and enable us to recruit some outstan ding golfers,” said Bill Morn- ingstar, director of athletic fund raising. He noted, too, that Mr. and Mrs. Hunt Ward join a tradition for the Elon golf program. Hunt Ward is the son of Elon College trustee C. Max Ward and his wife, Cynthia. Several years ago they established the C. Max Ward Scholarship for students who demonstrate academic promise. financial need and an interest in athletics. Ward is a 1982 graduate of Elon and currently a territory manager and professional photographer for Max Ward-Delmar Studios. He is also an avid golfer. During his high school years at Burlington’s Walter Williams High, he was a member of two championship golf teams during his three years there. “It is gratifying to be able to fur ther the efforts of Elon’s outstan ding golf program,” Ward said. Elon golfers won the NAIA cham pionship in 1982, and since 1972 the team has been to the Nationals 12 times, finishing with a Top Ten ranking all 12 times. The team has finished first or se cond in the conference and district every year since 1973.
