Wards establish $10,000 aid
Mr. and Mrs. William Hunt
Ward have established a $10,000
scholarship endowment to aid a
deserving golfer at Elon College.
Income from the endowment will
be awarded annually to a member
of the golf team selected by athletic
department personnel.
“This scholarship will be a
significant addition to Elon’s
athletic scholarship program and
enable us to recruit some outstan
ding golfers,” said Bill Morn-
ingstar, director of athletic fund
raising. He noted, too, that Mr. and
Mrs. Hunt Ward join a tradition for
the Elon golf program.
Hunt Ward is the son of Elon
College trustee C. Max Ward and
his wife, Cynthia. Several years
ago they established the C. Max
Ward Scholarship for students who
demonstrate academic promise.
financial need and an interest in
athletics.
Ward is a 1982 graduate of Elon
and currently a territory manager
and professional photographer for
Max Ward-Delmar Studios. He is
also an avid golfer. During his high
school years at Burlington’s Walter
Williams High, he was a member
of two championship golf teams
during his three years there.
“It is gratifying to be able to fur
ther the efforts of Elon’s outstan
ding golf program,” Ward said.
Elon golfers won the NAIA cham
pionship in 1982, and since 1972
the team has been to the Nationals
12 times, finishing with a Top Ten
ranking all 12 times.
The team has finished first or se
cond in the conference and district
every year since 1973. The team is
coached by Bill Morningstar.
