Dr. Arlene Goter will hold a
piano recital on Sunday at 3 p.m.
in Yeager Recital Hall.
The program includes a
Beethoven Sonata, a Chopin
Ballade and Rachmaninoff Etudes.
Goter will also perform recently
composed works of two North
Carolina composers.
She will play works composed by
Robert Ward, a Pulitzer Prize com
poser at Duke University, and Dan
Locklair, who is a composer at
Wake Forest University.
Goter usually holds one recital a
semester. She has been practicing
for Sunday’s recital since
November.
Goter has been playing the piano
since she was a child. She has been
teaching piano at Elon for six
years, mainly to students. She has
a heavy schedule, but she occa
sionally teaches high school
students in the community. She
also teaches two sophomore level
theory classes.
The recital is open to the public
and is free of charge.
Rockin’ at the Back Door

The Student Union Board has
come up with yet another “new and
innovative” program to stimulate
student involvement on campus.
This semester marks the opening
of the school’s own nightclub.
Every Saturday night, the Back
Door plays host to a different band
or deejay. According to Jim Bush,
Chairman of the Stage Perfor
mances committee of SUB, the
weekly “SUB Club” gives students
a chance to let loose without go
ing out to parties.
The Board’s decision to use the
Harper Center facility stemmed
from a belief that the school’s
“pub” is not used enough. Now,
each Saturday night, the pizza
parlor adopts a nightclub at
mosphere from 9 until midnight.
According to Bush, the Back
Door is “a great place,” complete
with a stage, dance area, and sit
ting room. Naturally, the ARA
auxilary continues to serve pizza,
subs, and a variety of other snacks
throughout the evening.
While SUB’s Contemporary
Music committee may have suf
fered budget cuts, it reserved
enough money to bring quality
entertainment on campus. Bush
says that the group tried to “choose
bands that are affordable yet pro
minent or up-and-coming on the
college circuit.”
Here’s a schedule of what to ex
pect from “SUB Club” for the re
mainder of the semester. For addi'
tional information, feel free to stop
by the SUB office in 202 Long, or
simply call extension 2334.
