The Pendulum November 9,1989 Page 13 Israel trip a pioneer program Dr. J. Christian Wilson, assistant professor of religion, will be hosting a ten-day winter term trip to Israel. Several Elon students plan to make the trip, and any Elon student is welcome to join the group. Three hours academic credit in religion can be arranged. Credit can be given at either the 200 or 300 level, but students seeking upper level credit will have to complete more work. Students who lake the trip for academic credit will be required to keep a journal of their exper iences and complete assigned readings about Israel prior to the trip. Places that will be visited during ihe trip include Tel Aviv, Mt. Carmel, Haifa, Cana of Galilee, Nazareth, Megiddo (Armageddon), Caesarea, Caper naum, the Sea of Galilee, the Mount of Beatitudes, Jericho, Qumran, the Dead Sea, the Jordan River, Bethlehem, and Jerusalem. Wilson made a similar trip on his own two years ago. "I saw this as a real good possibility for Elon students," he said, citing a good price as one of tlie reasons. "As a country, Israel is very good for touring," Wilson said, "(You) don't have to spend a lot of time on the bus." Cost of the trip is $1198 from New York. This includes airfare, hotels, all ground transportation, guides, and two meals per day (breakfast and dinner—students will pay for their own lunches). Dr. Wilson will arrange the air transportation to New York for those who will be leaving from Greensboro. Airfare from Greensboro to New York is approximately $219. The departure date is January 3. Extension trips to Egypt are also available at additional cost. While the trip to Israel is not an official part of the college's studies abroad program, Wilson hopes it can be in the future. He calls this journey "a pioneer program," and says, "We're looking towards the possiblity of making this a regular Winter Term offering." Any interested students should get in touch with Dr. Wilson at extension 2242. ’ T ' Photo by Pat Hobin Students can chouse fron a variety of study-travel classes this Winter Term.
