Sec Security, Page 8 Poindexter resigns two positions Kelly Potter The Pendulum Robert E. Poindexter has resigned from both his positions as vice president of administrative services at Elon College and as a member of the Burlington City Council. Poindexter's resignation came after an internal investigation into purchasing practices in his office. Elon distributed a brief news release that said President Fred Young has accepted the resig nation of Poindexter, effective immediately. It said that in accor dance with college policy on personnel matters and upon the advice of counsel, the college would make no further comment. Pat Kinney, director of public relations, said that she wasn't sure if the press release would be sent to students. The release was sent to faculty and administration. Kinney said that college policy prohibits the release of information on personnel matters. "It’s not a matter of covering anything up. Whatever Poindexter information we could release, we released," Kinney said. "I’m in a very difficult situation. I do not have the authority to release personnel information." Kinney said. Poindexter, in a letter to Mayor Jimmy Gerow. said: "This letter is to resign my position as Burlington City Councilman effective immediately." according to the Burlington Times-News. Johnson, director See Poindexter, Page 8 Gantt might speak at college coffee Elon is a possible stop between stops for U.S. Senate candidate Harvey Gantt at Colkge Coffee on Thursday, Oct 4, According to Loveless Johnson, director of campus appearances, there is an 85 percent chance of Gantt, a Democrat, making an appearance. Gantt will give a two- or three-day notice if he will show. The administration asked that if he spoke, it be limited to throe to five minutes because they didn’t .want it to turn into a political arena. Carter Smith, vice president of SGA. attempted to invite Senator Jesse Helms or a representative from his campaign. buLthey have not ya confirmed. . Next Week There will be a rally at Shaw University on Oct. 1 at 1:30. A statewide student rally is schedulol for 3 p.m. at N.C. State the same day. Gantt will appear at both. Flu vaccine available The Campus Health Service will administer Flu Vaccines on Wednesday. Oct 3, and Tuesday. Oct 9, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This will be given in the k)bby of Long Student Center.
