After looking over Jeanne Clery's case,
it is ironic that she chose Lehigh. She had
been interested in Tulane University in New
Orleans, where her two brothers had gone;
however, her father became concerned when
administrators informed him of a rape and a
rape-murder at the campus. Jeanne chose
Lehigh because of her concem for safety.

force with limited powers, while
others have a full-fledged police

Crime statistics "are one of
the most misleading things you
can talk about... A lot depends on
the people keeping the statistics.
It’s very subjective," said Jeffrey
Horton, Public Safety Director at
Villanova University.
Differences in determining and
reporting crimes could make one
campus appear to be crime-free
while making another campus
crime-infested.
Environmental factors must
be considered when comparing
crime statistics. The number of
students, faculty, and staff, status
of residence halls and geographic
location could influence statistics.
The Clerys are hoping to
make a difference. "If we can save
just one life Jeanne's life might
not have been in vain," Connie
Clery said.
