Microwaves have been added to each of the lounges in Hook, Smith, Carolina, Virginia/West, Sloan, Jordan Center, Harper Center, and Chandler. Steps to install the microwaves in the lounges started last spring. Lee Proctor, director of housing, and the Residence Hall Association decided that putting microwaves in the lounges would help the students feel more at home and make living on campus more enjoyable. They were also fulfilling a request by President Fred Young, and many parents, who questioned why they weren't "Putting micro waves in the lounges would help the students Teel more at home” already part of the lounges. Questions were brought to Proctor about why microwaves couldn't be put in each dorm room. Proctor said due to all the electrical appliances in the rooms (i.e., stereos, TV's, lamps, refrigerators, etc...) the ampage requirement was too low to accommodate an extra electrical appliance. Proctor said the decision to purchase the microwaves was made this past summer. The microwaves were paid for out of general funds. The carpentry shop installed all of the microwaves. Students seem to like this new addition to their campus living. Proctor has received positive feedback. One student responded as Proctor walked into one of the lounges, "These were a good idea." Asked if any future plans to improve campus living were in order, Proctor said there weren't any right now, but if anyone has ideas for improvements to bring them to any member of the Residence Hall Association, he said that they welcome any ideas students may have and do their best to incorporate them into campus living. ■ Heather Whitehouse/The Pendulum Microwaves were placed in all the lounges during winter reak. It is the responsibility of the students to take care of them. Now you can afford to dream in color Apple introcluces the Macintosh LC.
