officers proud of achievements

The Pendulum
The Student Government
Association has made many new
changes for Elon students this
year. SGA recently received a
letter from President Young
thanking them for their "many
accomplishments."
The officers of SGA are proud
of their achievements. So far the
association has been responsible
for new copiers in the library,
more phone lines and the
installation of shower heads that
will conserve water for campus
residents, improvement of lighting
on north campus and has provided
condoms on campus. They have
also recently adopted a highway.
While many changes have
been made, there are still more in

the process. One of these issues
is to try to change the format of
the bookstore. "SGA is trying to
change the format of the
bookstore, a lot of thought is
being put into it," said Scott
Frail, president of SGA.
Another project that SGA is
working on is "Earthday." While
plans for this day are still
underway, there will be events that
students can participate in to help
the environment.
SGA also plans to take a part
in building the house that
"Habitat for Humanity" is
sponsoring.
While SGA is still making
plans for upcoming events, they
encourage students to come to
their meetings to voice their
opinions. "We are always open
for suggestions," said Carter
Smith, Vice President of SGA.
"Our meetings are open to
students. They are held twice a
month. We encourage students to
come on out and share their
thoughts and concerns."
"SGA has been very
productive, but we need more
students to come and voice their
opinions," Frail said. "We are the
link between students and faculty,
but we represent only a small
percentage of students. We need
to hear other students' concerns so
we can try to fix the problems."
The next SGA meeting will
be held on March 19. It will be at
5 p.m. in the senate room.
Elections for new officers will
be held April 10. If you would
like to join SGA as an officer or
senator, you can pick up petitions
in the SGA office. All entries
must be back by March 20.

the homeless. Then the ACAC
will have administrative offices set
up, and a daycare center for the
elderly will also be available.
They are also hoping to eventually
relocate the Good Shepard
Community Kitchen (soup
kitchen) to the new shelter.
Hunter said there will be an
apartment for families that have
lost their home to fire to stay for a
short while also. "Hopefully we
will be able to use the facility for
illiteracy programs," Hunter said.
"We will continue the program fw
indigent help too."
