Students and the community
Then the house will be moved to
its permanent location.
Barnhill said the house is
secure. Habitat hopes to move the
house by next week, after a full
weekend of work on the site.
Tracy Pile, president of
Habitat, said that when the house
is moved, the work is still not
done. "It's not out-of-sight, out-
of-mind. The family is still there
and we need to keep up good
relations."

Barnhill said he was pleased
with all the efforts of students,
faculty and administration, but
added that there is always a need
for more help. "We could always
use more people...in the future,
we hope that everyone feels like
' they can get involved."
The Cooks, the family the
house is being built for, are very
happy with all of the help they
have received with the house.

celebrated the construction of the
house that has been in the woiks
since March on Saturday. They
called "Habitat Celebration Day."
Habitat sold tickets for $20
equal to the cost of materials for
one square foot of the house.
Tickets enabled participants to
have their name put onto a grid of
grass. Later in the afternoon, a hot
air balloon dropped an object on to
the grids. Wherever it landed, that
person won $500. Fifteen other
prizes were awarded from area
merchant dwiations.
Other activities included cake
walks, face painting, and a pig
picking. John Barnhill, president
of Elon Volunteers!, said Saturday
was a good time for the whole
community and the students
The house is almost
complete. All that needs to be
done is putting up wall board and
sheet rock and plastering it up.

The Fine Arts building was
the site of a wildlife casuality
Tuesday at approximately 8:40
a.m.
A one to two year old doe
startled by traffic crashed through
one of the mirror-like windows in
the lobby.
Deborah Danley, fine arts
secretary, was in her office and
heard ihe deer hit the window.
"The sound was hard to
describe, it sounded likd a hard
thud and then I went out to

Zoning laws
don't affect

The Pendulum
Elon College's single family
zoning ordinance may affect the
living arrangements that some
students have acquired over the
years.
Elon Town Manager, Mike
Dula, said single family zoned
houses are defined as a house with
no more than three unrelated
persons living on the premises.
Dula said the ordinance was
looked into a couple of years ago
because it was not being complied
with.
Dula also explained there were
many houses that already rented
rooms to more than three unrelated
Elon students before the ordinance
fell into effect. Those houses
would fall under a grandfather
clause and would not have to
change in accordance with the
(xdinance.
