Scott Walker, Sigma Pi rush chairman, was pleased with the interest they received at Open House. "We had 73 guys sign in at our tent at Open House. The interest was there, but a lot of those guys arc freshman and will not be eligible until spring rush," Walker said. "Right now all fraternities arc looking at about 24 eligible guys. It is going to be lough for all of us." Kappa Sigma, Sigma Chi, Sigma Pi, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Alpha Kappa Lambda, Kappa Alpha, Lambda Chi Alpha, Pi Kappa Phi, and Alpha Phi Alpha presented themselves at this fall's Fraternity Open House. Open House was held on Sunday, Sept. 8 and fraternities were pleased with the turnout. All men on campus were invited to attend the open house to meet the members and learn more about each fraternity. The fraternities prepared food and made displays to show off their organisation. "Right now all £ra> temities are looking at about 24 eligible guys." Scott Walker Sigma Pi In order to participate in rush during the fall, interested men must have established a GPA of 2.25 or higher at Elon. First semester transfers are not eligible. Rush officially ended on Tuesday and bids go out tonight. According to David Atkins, assistant dean of student affairs, the interest level this fall has been down somewhat and less men are meeting the GPA requirement. "A lot of the interest that the groups have received so far has been from freshmen. So now is their chance to rush those guys all semester," Atkins said. "The fraternities have an advantage over the sororities because they do not have a quota. They have the opportunity to take as many men as they want." Trey Stewart, Kappa Sigma rush chairman, feels that the I numbers are smaller this year because there were such large pledge classes last spring. "Our rush has gone a lot smoother this year. I feel like we are a lot more organized. We had an intense freshman turnout at our tent for open house and now we are already rushing for a ' spring pledge class," Stewart said. Pat Dillon, president of Sigma Phi Epsilon said that they rush by selling their strong points and helping rushees to understand what fraternity life is all about. "We show them our brotherhood. We promote our involvement on campus, in athletics, and in community service," Dillon said. Sigma Pi tried a different aspect this fall. "We invited sororities to two of our rush parties this fall and I am not sure it made any difference because there are so few guys," Stewart said. "Rush for gentlemen is not to promote an individual fraternity, but to promote the Greek system as a whole," he said. "Brotherhood is a good thing and pledging often has a jjad rap."
